Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Coleman.
Kiana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Pretty on purpose was birthed through a God-given dream in 2017. In the dream, I saw myself helping young women build an organic relationship with Christ, a sisterhood, and ultimately pushing them to their purpose. I had a dream and did not know where to start, so I left the dream in the back of my mind. It wasn’t until I saw a Facebook status from a childhood friend stating that she would love to be apart of a group of young women that uplifted and encouraged each other. That status ignited a fire within me, and a GroupMe was created, and it grew to over 300 members in under two weeks. Every week, I would send an empowering devotional, and we would have “virtual discussions” every Monday that many young women had the opportunity too engaging in conversations about their trials of life and experiences.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely Not! As the group grew, I wanted to do events where everyone was able to fellowship in person, but after every event, I left more discouraged due to the lack of attendees. I became consumed with numbers and lost sight of the real reason I started the organization. I began to feel like I wasn’t making an impact, and I hated the idea of failing. In the summer of 2017, I pulled Pretty on Purpose because I let my mind speak louder than God. I was so upset, but I’m glad it happened. During the hiatus, I went through trials and overcame, prayed and fasted, and my core foundation changed. In 2019, I decided that it was time to revive Pretty on Purpose so I prayed, planned, and put my faith in action. I want this relaunch to symbolize to others not to give up on the visions and dreams that God gave you. This time around, I’m not consumed with numbers but making an impact even if its just one person.
Please tell us about your work.
Pretty on purpose was created to unite young ladies around the world. Pretty on purpose is dedicated to helping young women find and live on their purpose while surrounded by other like-minded women. Our goal is to connect young women through devotionals, conferences, discussions, mentorship, and social gatherings. Pretty on purpose wants to equip young women with the Word in addition to life solutions to everyday problems.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Pretty on Purpose is gearing up for an amazing relaunch in 2021. However, we are rolling out new content and merchandise this year! We also have a couple of online experiences happening in April & June! It’s a new look: a new perspective but the Same Vision. I am super excited to see what God has in store for Pretty on Purpose.
