Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Fung-Richberg.
Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a wife and mother of two amazing boys who bring such purpose and happiness to my life. I have spent the past fifteen years working in the financial industry with small business owners. While I’ve been working in this capacity, I’ve always been inspired by small business owners to one day start my own business and in 2018, that’s exactly what I did.
It’s all started with my husband, who enjoys smoking cigars in his leisure. The smell would sometime linger into our home from our backyard deck. I began purchasing candles, reed diffusers and air fresheners to eliminate the odor. I knew I could one day create my own that was not only beautiful to look at but also have an equally amazing fragrance. I began experimenting with candle making. After several trials and errors, I was able to formulate a candle that was all-natural, 100% soy, healthy to burn and perfect for my home. As a gift to myself for my 40th birthday, I decided to share the candles I created with the world. Each candle is individually blended, wicked, labeled poured and boxed by hand. The inspiration for each candle in my collection came from words in various mantras that helped keep me happy during this special transition in my life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never easy when starting something new. The biggest challenge I would say is managing inventory. The goal is to make sure that inventory is available to customers that are ready to purchase all the time. Our candles sell out so quickly that we work really hard at making sure the website is always updated with in-stock items.
HOUSE OF 40 – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In the House of 40, we provide fragrance candles which are made with 100% natural soy wax, 100% cotton wicks, infused with essential oils for an aromatic escape. All-natural Soy wax candles have a much cleaner burn, no black soot or bad chemicals. No toxins, carcinogens or pollutants are in our soy candles.
Our products are handmade in New York with only the highest quality ingredients, finished in a beautiful box gift wrapped black and white ribbon for your pleasure. Our mission is to provide the healthiest best scented performing candle. We also believe that our complete mission is much more than selling our product. It is our hope that through corresponding with our company, we have in some way, touched your life in a positive way and inspire you to do the same in return. In this house, we strive to light up the corner of your space while you show compassion, love and light to others every day.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was when we were picked up by the Brooklyn Museum to carry our candles in their gift shop. We participated in a pop up at the museum and the buyer for the gift shop loved our candles so much they decided to buy wholesale from us. It was a dream come true.
