Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim McNair.
Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After retiring from the fashion industry(as a model) in the NY/NJ area, I moved to Orlando Florida where my family lived. I looked for things I was used to doing in the city but it was not there, so in 1991 I decided to create the industry I was used to being a part of, by starting my business McNair Productions. I start producing runway fashion shows giving exposure to un-tapped talent in Central Florida for upcoming models and designers.
Becoming a well-known in the community, my fashion shows became the annual event to attend with celebrities. Such as Former Miss USA Kenya Moore of RHOA, Model Tyson Beckford, Wesley Snipes, Shaquille O’Neal, Comedian Sommore and many more. Expanding into special events in 1995 KMP show directed and produced the first Black Expo for the City of Orlando for three years.
By then Kim McNair was the go-to person for events and promotions in Central Florida. Clients include Retired NBA Allstar Shaquille O’Neal, The late great comedian Bernie Mack, Jamie Fox, Luther Vandross, Marvleous Entertainment, Walter Latham with Kings of Comedy and many more.
In 2007, I relocated to Atlanta, GA to expanded my brand to offer more services since then the company has grown tremendously having a successful track record for developing, implementing and producing Special Events, Marketing, and Public Relations.
In 2013, I created a new brand “Women on the MOVE Summit” this annual conference that highlight women in business who are entrepreneurs, small business owners, CEO, Top executives, and community leaders. We come together to have panel discussions on build brands having stability in business and moving up the corporate ladder. We must come together to build empires my saying.
I have has been bringing men/women together across the Southeast for workshops, summits, and conferences for the purpose of empowering and inspiring them to elevate their personal brands, businesses, and organizations.
My personal trials and triumphs led me to the establish Business Women Empowerment Project, Inc. (B.W.E.P.), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to share access to resources that uplift women professionally and personally.
In 2015, I launched a NEW TV Show in Atlanta, GA called “WOMEN ON THE MOVE LIVE! Which Brings the energy and inspiration of the impactful Women on the Move events to a broader audience on the AIB Network and ION Television and WATCTV Atlanta 57.
My guests are women who are pacesetters in a variety of industries, businesses, and careers who come together for an intimate and interactive discussion of the challenges and successes that have shaped their lives. Current has completed four seasons.
Giving back to the community has always been big with me; in 2018 she started a youth group for teenage girls called “TEEN GIRLS ROCK” they have done several activities to help the girls build self-esteem.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
YES, there’s peeks and valley experiences. When the market slowed down and I had to pick up a part time job to provide for my family. Moving to Atlanta took some time to build my brand. I knew I couldn’t take on the entire metro Atlanta, so I decided to focus on the area where I lived worked and played the south side. I had to create the opportunity for the community and potential clients to see my work and my area of expertise. So I invested in myself it was a BIG risk but I took the RISK. Being in business as an entrepreneur means NO FEAR, just faith, and perseverance.
Once I focused on my market, I landed my first account the City of Lovejoy, GA. and the rest is history… I began to reBrand and Grow KMP.
