Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Greene.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I can truly say my talents and passions are God-given. A lot of the music I write vividly shows that through adornment and stories. Music has been a gift that I have pursued heavily for years but also ran away from when things didn’t seem to make sense, Yet, I realized that you can not outrun God and his plans for your life. So, at the age of 13, I began my journey as a songwriter and performer at Faith Outreach Christian Life Center in Hephzibah, Ga. Yeah, I started out in Christian Hip Hop back when groups like GRITS, KJ 52, and Da’ Truth were just being recognized. I realized there that my words had power and that people were willing to listen. So, after years of rocking with my crew , “Faith Fam”, which consisted of me, Fava, Jarius aka “Jas”, Jeff, Charles aka “Kodak”, and Richard aka “BJ”, I joined the Army, went off to college and began to see what music was like outside of the church. It’s when I attended Claflin University, I became best friends with the Founder and Co-Founder of State House Records, the creators along with JayQ of “Crank Dat Roy”.
With State House, I was able to work with some amazing artists and land a song placement on their label’s project. That experience was short-lived after being called to serve in Kuwait in 2008. This is when music took a pause but I still found a way to release my thoughts through poetry competitions and open mics. History then found a way to repeat itself in 2012 but this time, it would be in Iraq, and there would be a way to still pursue music while serving overseas. It was there in the desert I met some dope people like James Butler a.k.a. “Murk”, a well-known engineer at Patchwerk Studios. Also, Mike Willion, a hip hop artist from Alabama. With these two I was able to build up recording studio from scratch , engineer and mix the project entitled, ” Selective Hearing” by Mike Will?. I was also able to get a poetry placement on this project as well. After returning back to America, I chose to pursue my education at Full Sail University. I studied Audio Engineering. I took another pause on my music career and education to contract overseas in Afghanistan. I didn’t know it would be a short pause because once again, I built another studio from scratch and began recording artists after my work shifts. There I became affiliated with a crew called C.O.R.E(Counting Our Riches Everyday), an amazing group of talented young men with talent that I’m glad to call my brothers. Also, in Afghanistan is when I created and started my present-day company Class Act Productionz (CAPZ), a multimedia company that specializes in Audio, Film and Photography.
After returning back home at the end of 2014, I was able to return and complete my degree program and became a graduate with an A.S in Audio Engineering. I was able to work with a vast number of people throughout Orlando, FL such as Whitney Brown owner Vision Blu and Fene owner of Underconstruction Photography. In 2017, my sights were set on Atlanta. I had a few friends out here but no idea what I had signed up for. With a love for music and a drive to learn film, I teamed up with the writer and producer of Choices LGBT Web Series, Nadija Warith-Sharpe. We were able to create 2 seasons of amazing content. I was also able to get a few of my own songs placed in Choices. Tracks like Only One and Weekend Remix. While that has been on pause, I have gotten to work with some of my other classmates from Full Sail. Malik Marcell, owner of 730vision. They have given me so many opportunities to work with an amazing independent artists as well as some of the majors. I was able to work on sets like Teyana Taylor’s “WTP”, Rich Homie Quan “Gamble”, and a few others.
Even though I was having fun in the film world, music had a way of finding me again and this time he hit me with the death grip. I was sucked in the energy of Writing Sessions of America. This organization isn’t a record label at all, it’s a vast group of songwriters that truly have gifts and talents that will leave you in awe. Yes, to bring in streams of income are a part of our goals, its the pursuit of happiness and peace of mind while being able to be your authentically unowned self in this crazy world we call the Music Industry. This group is mentored by Kevin Shine. He the force and support that you will hear vibrate throughout my music and he’s building an army of artists I am proud to be a part of.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Reaching for your heart’s desires requires a full tank of faith at the start of every day. I have lost jobs, cars, even borderline homeless trying to achieve the ability to allow all my gifts and talents to bring in not only money but good people and energy. I recently had an inner battle with myself about my will and God’s will for my life. I realized that my will was to film and do videos, which is cool and will probably get me half of what I want out of life and God’s will is for me to minister through my music to the masses and from there all that I desire will happen cause in his will he’ll make room for it.
We’d love to hear more about your company.
Class Act Productionz is a multimedia project company that specializes in Audio, Film, and Photography. Our services cater to the commercial side of business. We intend to help small and medium businesses take their marketing to the next level. We provide everything from Promotional Commercials, Product shoots, Jingle writing and etc. We have found that a lot of businesses fail within their first five years due to lack of marketing and branding. We do also work with music artists, models, and other creatives as well on case by case basis. We consult with businesses what their environment and identity are and how we can make those characteristics help the business or creative stand out.
What were you like growing up?
I was friendly, sociable, intelligent, yet lazy. I was very narrow-minded. I think I still am in certain ways. Overall, I hustled when I had a passion to pursue or when something new would spark my interest.
