Meet Kimbi Tiez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimbi Tiez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am Kimbi Tiez, a singer/songwriter and spoken word artist and more. I ran from being multidimensional for a long time but through life experiences and growth, I learned to embrace each facet that has contributed to who I am today. Music was a part of my upbringing from my mother who was a singer in a band back in the 1970s named “Freedom”, my grandmother, also a singer & aunt, played piano and trumpet respectively. Songs and melodies were a natural staple for me as a child. Through my own growth, lessons & life trials, I found my voice & presence via being a yoga instructor & poet. I like to use the term to describe what I do as a s.e.p.a (spiritual entertainment performance artist) pretty much sums it up I think.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been in life. There are ups & downs and everything in between. Finding the balance in pursuing your passion but still needing to keep a roof over you and your child’s head, it’s been “testing”. You stay focus and keep listening to that God within and do what you know you’re supposed to do. You keep it moving.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter/spoken word artist/healer. Through my music, you can see on YouTube I embrace the power & freedom in vulnerability & transparency. I am most proud of completing my music project and the newly released single “Lost”. I am genuinely just me, musically a mix of soul, blues, hip hop, jazz, classical, neo-soul, gospel and r&b. It’s a waste of energy for anyone to try to be anyone other than their true self.

What makes you happy?
My son’s smile. He is my motivation and why giving up is never an option when it comes to your dream/calling. Oh and mangoes, I love a good red mango!
