Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Webb.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with a wonderful chance meeting. One afternoon I was being a nosey neighbor and looking online at the house next door that was for sale; in order to view the photos I had to submit my contact information. The real estate agent who called me back just so happened to also be an investor who had a flipped house that had been on the market for months with little interest. I told him that I was interested in becoming a home stager and asked if I could stage the house, I guess he figured he didn’t have anything to lose so he said yes. I just so happened to have a storage unit full of furniture as my boyfriend and I had just moved in together, so using mostly our extra furniture and frantically buying a house full accessories I was able to stage the agents house the following week. After the house was under contract the first weekend it was staged, I knew I had found my calling! And needless to say, the real estate agent/flipper I worked with is still one of my most loyal clients today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There has been a learning curve to starting a small business. In addition to actually staging the homes (which is the fun part) I also have to handle the marketing, finance, logistics and anything else that comes along. I’ve learned a lot, but there is still so much I don’t know. Also, being a one woman show, I rely on my boyfriend and mom a lot to help.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Clever Girl Interiors story. Tell us more about the business.
At Clever Girl Interiors we specialize in affordable and on trend staging. I think my clients would tell you that I offer a great product at a competitive price with exceptional customer service. I am most proud of growing my company more than 200% over last year and actually paying myself a salary and making a profit.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think I was very lucky to meet a flipper who was willing to give me a chance to stage my first house. I know a lot of stagers who it takes a long time to find someone who will give them a chance.
