Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Green.
Kristen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Like many realize when in college (at that point where it’s too late to turn back!) I couldn’t see myself happily working in my field. I decided right then and there to start a business that tied into what I was learning in public relations but focused more on my passion for the wedding industry.
With support from my entrepreneurial parents, knowledge from my numerous internships, and a reckless failure is not an option attitude, I started Something New for I Do. And the best part? My mom was my business partner! We started working with wedding venues, handling their PR, Marketing and Sales.
Shortly after, I began taking on wedding planners, photographers and others in the creative industry. My business has shifted since those first days and I now specialize in styled shoot and real wedding submissions for wedding photographers and wedding planners.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would stay most of the bumps in the road came from being a new entrepreneur with little experience in how to run a business. You know, like the not so fun stuff – taxes, insurance, finances, etc. It’s something I think most entrepreneurs experience. We get into business for ourselves because we’re passionate about the creative aspect of our business, but we don’t actually know how to run the business so we have to learn and it’s often the hard way.
So I fully believe in hiring people to help you – a good accountant, perhaps a virtual assistant. That’s why I’m hired by photographers… because they’re so busy actually running their business that they don’t have time to submit their weddings and styled shoots. They find comfort that this is my expertise and it’s something they can hand off to focus on what they’re most passionate about.
Please tell us about Something New for I Do.
My specialty is completely taking over the styled shoot + wedding submission process. As a result, it allows photographers and wedding planners more time for creating an exceptional client experience. And, it takes the stress out of getting published to continue bringing in more clients.
