Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Lee.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Krystal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
So, I’m originally from Detroit, MI. I moved to Atlanta at the age of 17 to attend Clark Atlanta University.
I thought I wanted to be a music producer (even though I had never created a beat in my life) so I chose Mass Media Arts with a concentration in radio, tv, film because that was close enough. I started my entertainment career at CTE (Young Jeezy’s record label) from there I went on to intern at V-103 on the Ryan Cameron Show and that’s where my radio career began. From there I got hired as a board operator and had many other opportunities in Atlanta as I finished my college career so after graduation I decided to move to Los Angeles. I got hired at TMZ on the news desk and moved to LA on faith. I hated the city, but I loved the opportunities. From Warner Bros. Studios to red carpets and celebrity interviews. My life looked great on social media (twitter at the time lol), but I felt a void. I knew that I had a call on my life to motivate women and lead people to Christ!
After being diagnosed with Graves disease in 2012, I had to leave LA and briefly move back to Detroit. After getting back on my feet, I moved back to LA in 2013 and in 2015 God told me to move back to Atlanta. So once again, I moved on faith with no money or job. Three months later I was hired at Radio One as an on-air personality for Hot 107.9. God had other plans for me so two months after that I was hired on the Willie Moore Jr. Show – a nationally syndicated gospel radio show on Praise 102.5 in Atlanta. I was literally on the birthday bash (hip hop) stage at Phillips Arena June 2015 and July 2015 I was on stage at Praise In The Park (Gospel) at Centennial Olympic Park –it was so crazy! Needless to say, people were very confused but when they hear the story, they know that God literally ordered my steps. Now I have one of the most popular segments on the Willie Moore Jr. Show “Top 3 with Krystal Lee.”
I decided instantly to use my platform to empower women! I started my clothing business because I wanted young women to know they could love God and still be fly. For a long time I felt like I was too churchy for the club and too cool for the church (haha) so now that I’ve embraced who God created me to be I wanted to show other women that it’s OK to be yourself! Girl + God is a tribe of women who are excited about their relationship with God and I’m excited about where God is taking this brand!
Has it been a smooth road?
HAHA! Absolutely not!– but a story is never good without conflict! The journey is used to strengthen our faith. It’s very tough to run any business, but I think it’s on a whole different level when you are representing God. I struggle like everyone else, but everybody is watching to see when you’re gonna mess up if you’re a Christian. From bankruptcy, student loan debt, illness, family issues, bad relationships – I’m very transparent about my journey because I want people to know that I’m not perfect and I don’t want anybody to put their faith in me, I want people to follow Jesus! Cause I need Him (Jesus) every single day– FOREAL! I want to go off sometimes and do the Cardi B on folks some days lol things gets frustrating, but my purpose is bigger than me. I’m here for the girls and women that God assigned to me, so I have to push past my feelings and get it done!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Girl + GOD story. Tell us more about the business.
Girl + God is a lifestyle brand dedicated to inspiring, uplifting, and empowering girls/ women! We started as a clothing line and grew into a tribe of dope Christian women! As the CEO and owner of the company, I oversee the day to day operations of the business. Most people know me for my Wake Pray Slay brand but I acquired Girl + God this year and it has been such an amazing journey. Since August the brand has grown from 700 followers on Instagram to over 22k followers. I love the women who support me and embody the Girl + God lifestyle! I truly want women to know that through God all things are possible!

I’m also dedicated to helping other women start their t-shirt/apparel brands so I’m excited about that as well. You will absolutely see Girl + God everywhere very soon!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Honestly, I don’t know. I have an amazing team and they keep me on point with new trends and changes. I just trust God and allow Him to lead me and help me as things continue to change. We are in a digital age and things are moving super fast, but I am dedicated to building a company that honors God and people and will stand the test of time.
