Meet Kweeno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kweeno.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Whew!! Started as a kid singing in church. I’ve always been in love with music, any genre for that matter. So I used to find the instrumental for popular hits, may it be Rap, R&B or country, and I will write something Gospel with. One I left for college, I kinda gave up that part of me. All that changed once I met a friend of mine name Neta who will not give up until she put me in a booth and have me record something.

She then introduced me to a couple producer friends of hers from ClearHouse Studio, where I recorded my first single “ You” which was a French Caribbean sensation. Shortly after we decided to pick our life up and moved to Atlanta, that’s when the magic happened. Found my music soulmate/producer (Nick Fuller) from Zenfull Sound Records. Together we produced some amazing hits including my most popular project “KWEEN” which went on to accumulate over a million streams on Spotify. May I add that was the best day ever lol.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My mother always tells me that “ if you get it too easy then you didn’t dream big enough,” so I always find myself aiming for higher. It’s definitely not a smooth road being a gay black man in the rap game but I’m up for the fight.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
We’ve all heard of Cardi B, City Girls, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj and all those sassy female MCs, and we have fallen in love with their “non-apologetic) lyrics, well they are some of my biggest influencers. To be who you are and not diluting yourself to please society and I mean to really be fierce and sassy as the rest, it’s a movement which breaks barriers when it comes down to a gay man living in his truth while being as sexy, sassy and fearless as the gurrrlsss lol.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is doing something that you love. When you are truly passionate about something and you finally decide to take a shot at it, to me, that’s success.
