Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylee Greiner.
Kylee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey through photography started more seriously when I was about fifteen or sixteen. I have always been drawn to this form of expression ever since I was little, but once I got a phone with a nice camera, I really started to play around with photography as art. I got my first DSLR camera for Christmas when I was sixteen and this totally changed the game for me. I remember the very first thing I was drawn to photograph with my new camera was people. My brother went on to be my model for a few months before I was able to recruit some friends for some of my very first photoshoots. I will never forget my first portrait session with my best friend, I vividly remember coming home and editing the pictures and realizing that this is maybe my “thing”. Although I think my “ah ha” moment in my journey was senior year of high school when I took my first official photography class at my school. This class focused on the art of film photography and I learned how to shoot and develop my own black and white film. Something clicked for me during this year of artistic growth as a photographer and I soon fell deeply in love with the beauty behind photography. Learning about film opened my eyes and showed me a completely different angle not only to photography, but it truly changed how I see the world and my surroundings. It caused me to see deeper into the beauty of both nature and people and gave me a newfound appreciation for this form of art. Now, two years and an upgraded camera and lens later, I love photography even more than I did in that moment and I am continuing to learn and flourish every day as a photographer.
I now have a growing photography business and have been blessed enough to be a featured artist in two art shows, as well as have my work in a restaurant.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey thus far has been so incredible, but that most definitely does not go without some struggles along the way. I am still young so I know there is so much more to learn and experience, but there have been a few obstacles to battle since starting my business. In this industry, I feel like one of the most frustrating obstacles to overcome is the oversaturation in the field. I take photography very seriously and consider it a form of art rather than just a hobby or side job. I think this deep appreciation is often lost in certain areas of the industry and this makes it difficult to get a good start to a business. I hope that my vision, passion and work ethic are what take me far in my path to success, despite some of these challenges.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kylee Alene Photography – what should we know? What are you most proud of as a company?
My business has undergone some incredible rebranding over the past few months with the addition of a beautiful website, new logo and much more. I am so passionate about portrait, fashion, fine art, wedding, and travel photography, and I am daily searching for beauty that I can capture within these areas.
I have always had a desire to help others love their authentic selves. I think it is pretty amazing to capture someone through images in a light they might not otherwise have seen themselves. This is why portrait photography is so beautiful to me. I am always up for a styled shoot and funky location or just a sweet little senior shoot in a field. I love a client who can stay true to themselves and knows what they want. Additionally, wedding and couple photography is a huge passion of mine. Photographing raw emotion between two people and being able to document their special day in a way that will last forever is something indescribable. I am so inspired by the love that others share for each other and it is an incredible feeling to be a part of a couple’s journey in that way.
I am most proud of my commitment to staying true to photographing what I am passionate about rather than conforming to the stereotypes within the industry. While this has not always paid the most, it is so important to me to be uniquely myself and shoot what I love. I never want to compromise my photographic individuality, just to make extra money and I think that is what sets me apart from other photographers.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that work ethic and passion are at the heart of what makes a successful artist and business, so these are two characteristics I strive to stay true to and grow in on a daily basis. Dedication and determination are other key factors in the success I have seen in my business, but I have also learned from others that these traits are so valuable not only in business but in life as a whole.
