Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyree Myers.
Kyree, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story starts as a child being inspired by my father who is also a photographer. He was an event photographer and I always remember him taking pictures of me and my family growing up. I always had an interest in photography, but really took interest once the Apple iPhone came out with, at the time, a new feature called portrait mode.
It amazed me the type of pictures I could take with just my phone. I’d take thousands of pictures of nature, landscapes, and myself. Once I became a sophomore In High School with the help of my dad I purchased my first camera. I started doing actual photoshoots with my friends and learning more about technicalities and developing a skill for taking pictures. Now I have been growing my photography brand on Instagram and have even created a YouTube channel dedicated to photography. I like being creative with concepts and challenging photography norms.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My photography journey has not been easy at all. Early on my biggest challenge was finding my style. It was definitely a challenge figuring out who I was as a photographer. I solved this by going out and practicing my craft until I started getting comfortable with having a camera and having a vision. Another big challenge for me was capturing images with meaning. Separating myself from an amateur to more of a professional. Taking pictures that leave you questioning what’s going on? When was this? Why is this happening? My biggest challenge now is getting exposure. There are so many photographers in the world and there are millions of pictures all over the internet. I believe my work is a reflection of who I am. That being said, I think people no matter if they are into photography or seeing my pictures for the first time, will appreciate and be interested in my work.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with K1myers – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I don’t want to necessarily box myself in to say a portrait or a street photographer. I like being inspired from what I see and expressing that through photography. I want to stamp moments in time. What sets me apart from others is that I am me, and I embrace being me. I don’t try to be anybody else but myself. I believe you can see that in my work. There’s no one else in this world exactly the same as you, so being yourself automatically sets you apart from anybody else.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan for the future is to continue evolving and becoming a master at my craft. I want to be well respected in the photography world and also open my own galleries across the world. I hope I inspire others to be themselves and do what they are passionate about. Becoming a photographer has allowed me to be more creative and find the things that I love. I’m looking forward to working with artists, brands, and companies and letting the world see what I am capable of.
