Meet La’Tasha Givens of 11Alive News

Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Tasha Givens.

La’Tasha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
There are two things I wanted to become as long as I could remember, a nun and a news anchor. I grew up watching religious programing with my grandmother and the news with my mother. I often pretended to be Monica Pearson (Kauffman at the time) on the playground.

Fast forward two decades and I start my 1st reporting job at WCTV in the Thomasville, GA bureau. I was promoted to anchor my second year and moved to the main station in Tallahassee, FL. From there, my husband and I moved to Oklahoma, where I was an anchor/reporter for KFOR News Channel 4. We had our first son in Oklahoma. We moved back to Atlanta when he was five months old in 2015. I started working at 11Alive a few weeks later as a part-time reporter where I’ve worked for the past five years.

My husband William and I now have two boys – WilliamCharles who is five and Winston-Xavier who is three. I’ve enjoyed working a few days a week while also being home with our boys. Last October, I landed my own radio show, The Business Brief on Hits 92.3. My guests take listeners behind the scenes of emerging careers and top industries around Atlanta. It’s also a great place for small business owners and nonprofits to spotlight their products and services. I also feature young entrepreneurs.

I’m a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. I enjoy serving the community through various organizations like Permission To F.L.Y., The Children’s Center, HOPE Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity, and the Junior League of Atlanta. I believe it is important to set an example for teens and our next generation. I enjoy cooking, spending time with friends and family, and watching movies that either make me laugh or cry.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have not had any abnormal obstacles on my professional journey. I think the challenges with working in television news come with relocating every few years and having a demanding schedule with daily deadlines.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a general assignment reporter at 11Alive News. I enjoy the adventures news brings. Every day I get to meet new people from all walks of life. I think what makes me different is that over the past 13 years, I’ve prayed for almost every person I’ve done a story with or about. I believe I was meant to meet them on that particular day in history.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Atlanta isn’t defined by one thing or one type of person. The face of Atlanta could be anyone, of any age, any race and any economic status. The only thing I wish would change is the traffic.
