Thanks for sharing your story with us Latyna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As cliche as it sounds, I created my business with hard work. In late 2015, I decided that I wanted to shift the dynamic of my life. I knew that at some point, I wanted to be a politician. I also knew that I didn’t have the tools or the support to be able to do that. But, what I did know is that ALL GOOD LEADERS SERVE. So, to that end—I decided to help the residents of Flint, MI. At that time and quite frankly present day, the residents of Flint are still dealing with the infamous water crisis. I utilized my tax refund and drove back and forth from Columbus, OH to Flint, MI biweekly for six months to help the residents of Flint.
I did that because I understood that there was a need for community and I wanted to be a part of that. I continued my efforts to help under-served communities by helping them to understand the political process as well as the urgency of being civically engaged. Essentially, I have dedicated my life to fulfilling my purpose and to helping black, brown and under-served communities. My successes are contributed to my focus, commitment and to the empowerment of others.
I initially joined political & civic organizations and decided after four long years, it was important for me to began my own journey to empower, educate and inspire others. To that end, Latyna M. Humphrey, LLC was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
Truthfully, the hardest thing about starting a business for me was brand exposure. Marketing is a huge piece. I have had to invest in master classes, clubs and coaching’s to help me learn how to market my brand. I have invested so much money in my business for exposure. It has definitely paid off but it is difficult trying to find the strategies that work. Once I learned how to market my product and find my target audience, things began to shift.

The name of my business is called Latyna M. Humphrey, LLC. Essentially, what I do is develop leaders in civic and political spaces. As well as mentor and coach women in personal and professional spaces. Whether that is through 1 on 1 coaching sessions, webinars, keynotes or workshops. I refer to myself as the Political & Lifestyle Strategist. I am an author, rising community leader, speaker and community relations professional.
What sets me apart is that I have created my success based off of service to others. I’ve dedicated my life to black & brown communities and continue to make strides daily and that my authenticity is flagrant and has allowed my business to expand.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Great question! I think that minorities, especially African Americans are in a unique space to capitalize off of their talents and abilities. So, the ability to cultivate voices personally & professionally is not specifically subjective or contingent upon location. Although Atlanta is a great place to empower as it wheelhouse of African American talent. I.E, Entertainment, Politics and Sports.
Essentially, I think location is a small factor. However, the mindset to want to create change and the willingness to learn how to curate change is important. If you desire to mentor civically & politically you must demonstrate that you are capable.
I’ve found that success is really contingent upon the founder’s authenticity. Typically, small businesses grow based off of authenticity, ability to produce results, and effectiveness. So, in my case I continue to show my supporters that I do the “work” and that I produce results. In order to do that, you have got to be willing to invest in your business, make sacrifices and maximize your marketing efforts. Your success will always be contingent upon the amount of work you are willing to put in. The difference between the successful and the mediocre is patience, investment and effort. Bottom-line.
