Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Longo.
Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I founded Talli after our second child was born. With our firstborn, we tracked on pen and paper. By the time we had our second, I thought for sure there would be apps that would make it easier. We were working with pediatricians and consultants to track our daughter’s routines because she wasn’t gaining weight as quickly as she should. I found the available apps had too many steps and were overly complicated, especially after sleepless nights with a newborn. I told my husband, “I wish it could be as simple as pressing a button”. I have a background in user experience and design and my husband has a background in hardware and software. Together, we shaped the first prototype and the Talli Baby Tracker was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’ve definitely had struggles along the way, as any startup does. We started selling right as Covid-19 hit and we quickly pivoted to offer a symptom-tracking app to help folks track symptoms during a time of uncertainty. The supply chain struggles have hit us as well, we had a few months during the summer where we were constantly sold out (which is still a very good thing!) and the devices had to be put on pre-order while we waited on manufacturing and shipping to catch up.
As you know, we’re big fans of Talli. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Talli Baby Tracker is the simplest way to track baby’s care on the market. The device comes preset with 8 buttons to track everything your pediatrician and/or consultants ask about. To log an event, simply press a button on the device and everything will be stored in the Talli Baby app. With our premium subscription, everything is fully configurable and each button can be programmed and customized for your family’s needs. Invite other caregivers to the app and you can all monitor baby’s development together! The device is especially easy when other caregivers are taking care of baby, like grandparents and babysitters.
We’ve also started branching out into the senior care market. We are working with beta testers to shape an app that will help care recipients and caregivers in the aging community.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We have an incredible community of fellow parents who have helped us shape Talli from the start. After we created a device for our own family to use, we learned from other friends and neighbors that they were interested as well! We created a prototype for the device and our volunteer testers helped us shape the design of the device as well as what was most important to keep track of. As we’ve grown, we’ve benefited from wonderful advice from Talli users in our online forum. We are so happy to be working in a community where parents help other parents and celebrate our wins together! We also have a phenomenal group of investors who have provided so much wisdom and insight along the way.
