Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Washington.
Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an affinity for anything beauty related. My first love is makeup; I’ve worked in various lanes in the beauty world; from working retail at places like Ulta Beauty and Sally Beauty, to doing freelance makeup on the side. I started reviewing products I bought on Instagram four years ago and that’s still my passion today. Reviewing products had brought so many opportunities my way and I hope to only go up from there. I just love helping people find affordable makeup. Skincare and hair care. I knew I loved to make people look good and feel good about themselves so I decided to go to school to be an Esthetician a few years ago and when I moved to Atlanta (I’m originally a Midwest girl) I finally signed up for school. It was a long 16 months but I finished in June and will be going to take my state board test in August.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t smooth at all. Going back to school was very stressful and hard on someone who had not been in a school setting in over ten years. I’m also a mother so I had to balance taking care of home and excelling in school. I thought about giving up so many times but I could never let myself entertain the thought for too long because I knew in the end it would pay off. Same for my beauty blog. It’s an interesting ‘job’ to have; you basically have to spend a lot of money before things start paying off. Influencing looks glamorous to some but it is also a lot of work and takes a long time to start paying off so you definitely must have patience.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Buxombohemian – what should we know?
I haven’t officially started my Esthetics business yet, but I cannot wait to be certified and get started on it. I’ve been told that I have a very comforting, relaxing touch and that’s always my goal with every service. I try to make sure my energy is on point because when you work in such a physical field, you can easily transfer energy; negative and positive onto others.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My younger sister is my biggest cheerleader and has always encouraged me to follow my dreams even when I’ve doubted myself. She had helped me tremendously during my journey in so many ways and I could never thank her enough. I also thank my Instagram followers who read my comment and value my opinion and recommendations.
