Meet Laurie Underwood of Laury Bride in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurie Underwood.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laurie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been designing for over 10 years. It wasn’t until I finished my time on Project Runway that I decided to design bridal wear. After being challenged on Project Runway, I wanted to challenge myself even more in real life!

In 2019, I started my bridal brand Laury Bride, in which I wanted to design for non-quintessential, yet very essential bride, who desires a true style option, representation, and celebration of her vibe on her wedding day.
As a bride-to-be myself, offering true style options was a must for my brand.

My overall vision was to design interchangeable bridal separates to give the bride not only an opportunity to wear multiple looks on her wedding day, but to go beyond the aisle and style the separates with pieces in her closet. With the new ways we’re saying “I do”, 2020 pushed me to bring this vision to life, as weddings are becoming smaller, more intimate, and brides are more interested in styles outside of the norm by considering their own personal style.

This fall, I launched my interchangeable bridal separates collection, in which brides can have more style options when it comes to walking down the aisle.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A smooth road? Not at all. Being an independent, black designer is a bumpy road all by itself. But I will never find myself stuck in a challenge when it comes to my dreams, goals, and aspirations. I was able to overcome obstacles of that challenge by creating my own resources, wearing many hats at once within my business, showing up for my brand and being consistent with what I have to offer and who I am as a designer.

Laury Bride is a bridal brand that is the mirror to the non-quintessential, yet very essential bride, who desires a true style option, representation, and celebration of her vibe on her wedding day.

As a designer, I specialize in bridal ready-to-wear and custom bespoke bridal. For Laury Bride, I am mostly proud of sticking to my vision and designing sticking to my own perspective when it comes to bridal, as oppose to designing the norm of the industry.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to expand on my interchangeable concept to continue to offer modern brides true style options for their wedding day.
