Today we’d like to introduce you to Leisa Minor.
Leisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Inspired by Pretty Girls was created to help provide resources and assistance to domestic violence victims that may not have a support system. We have partnered with a domestic violence organization in the local area. A percentage of our sales is donated to the organization for client needs. This cause is very near and dear to my heart because I am a domestic violence survivor. In June 2017, I became a victim of domestic violence. I was in the middle of a nasty divorce with my now ex-husband. The major point of contention was regarding the house that we once shared along with our two children. He was determined that he was going to get the house no matter what the courts had said. On the evening of June 23, 2017, I was scheduled to meet my ex-husband at the residence to get a key because he had changed the lock to our gate without the permission of the courts. I pulled up to the gate and got out of my car. He let himself out of the gate and stood in front of it. With a crazed look in his eyes, he said, “I’m not giving you this key!” I wasn’t going to stand there and argue with him, so I started to leave. As I turned to start walking back to my car, he pulled out a 45 caliber revolver and began to shoot. By the grace of God, I was able to getaway. I hysterically dialed 911 as I drove to the nearest gas station to stop because my car was damaged. He was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Assault Family Violence, Terroristic Threats, Criminal Damage to Property in the 3rd Degree, and Possession of a Fire Arm during the Commission of a Felony.
That was the beginning of a year-long court battle. It was during that time that I realized that the judicial system is not set up to help the victims. During all of the court appearances, meetings, and victim impact statements, I quickly realized that without my tremendous support system, I would not have made it through this ordeal. The DA’s office ultimately gave him a plea deal because he was a first time offender. All felony charges were changed to misdemeanors with his admission of guilt. He was only given probation and community service. It was then that I decided to create Inspired by Pretty Girls. I wanted to be a resource for victims without direction or support, and leave a legacy for my children.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth. With limited funds, starting a business can be extremely stressful. Once I had the idea, there was a lot of planning, researching, and sleepless nights. I knew the market that I wanted to target, but creating a brand that was appealing and eye catching was difficult. I have a background in Marketing, but not design. There was a lot of trial and error with designing products that people would want to buy.

Inspired by Pretty Girls is a unique company with a unique brand. The Inspired brand strives to empower, inspire, and uplift. It is a collection of inspirational and empowering t-shirts designed to create a positive message and lift your spirit. I am proud of Inspired by Pretty Girls because what started as a dream in my head, materialized into a great brand that is growing each day. What sets us apart is the fact that we donate a portion of our sales to help support local domestic violence organizations.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently. Going through my tragedy is what inspired me to be of service to others. I understand now that sometimes something has to come along and shake up your world for you to find your purpose.
