Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenese Calleea.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lenese. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Chicago and got my start after graduating from college with a BFA in Fashion Design. I kicked off my career as a custom fashion designer and retail manager. After excelling really fast in my field, I wanted more and felt limited in Chicago. I moved to NYC to get my master’s in fashion management and merchandising. I kicked off my career in the New York City garment district is product development and production. Over the course of six years, I worked at over 12 companies and in every position, I was the only black girl. I wanted to see more Black women in fashion.
I started connecting with other black creatives and even applied for teaching positions at FIT & Parsons. I have a love for education and helping others. After several failed attempts, I shifted away from my personal brand and started LC Apparel Consulting. I offer courses, workshops, Mentorship, tours and services in product development and production. To coincide with my business, I started the BlackNFashion podcast to educate creatives with my skill set and help them learn from other creators. Today I have consulted over 100 black fashion brands all over the US and the podcast is a go-to resource for many creators seeking knowledge in fashion.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a long road. Not smooth at all but I’m a person that is super solution-oriented and I know how to get things done. I don’t believe in stress. Some of the biggest struggles was financial. It was an adjustment changing my Chicago lifestyle to New York.

LC Apparel Consulting was birthed as a resource for emerging creators in order to expand product-development knowledge. This goal is achieved via a blend of consult services and educational offerings.

In addition to product development consults, we offer production services, courses, mentorship packages, workshops and New York garment district tours. We are the only black-owned product development and production company that caters to all apparel types and has an education core.
