Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesly Alonzo.
Lesly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Makeup journey began as young as 12 years old. Growing up, my mother always had gems on her eyes and colorful eyeshadows. I loved seeing what looks she would come up with next. I remember one night, I was determined to learn how to do winged eyeliners symmetrically. I wiped them off around ten times until I got it perfect! I would sometimes do my makeup three times a day to get content for my makeup page and get more practice in. I always knew the only key to perfecting and improving any skill is practice. I was always so eager to perfect and learn this beautiful makeup craft. I didn’t start doing makeup on others until one day, I had some friends and family ask me to do their makeup and I hesitated because I wasn’t confident about doing makeup on others yet but eventually, I agreed. I would practice on my mom and grandma at times and watched so many videos on YouTube. I always knew I wanted to do something in the beauty, creative field. I can now say I’ve improved tremendously and I truly enjoy the art of helping enhance people’s natural beauty and making them feel confident the day of their events. I know there is so much more I have to learn. The reason I’ve stayed consistent is because of the true love I have for makeup. Makeup is truly a coping mechanism—definitely an art form.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say the obstacles I faced while trying to pursue makeup freelancing was being able to be taken seriously at a young age of 15 when I first started. I feel as if being young, made it hard for me to build my clientele with the older age groups. As I’ve got older I have more variation of age groups in my clientele and I truly enjoy working on all different types of skin tones , textures , and ages. Another obstacle I came across was saving money and investing in my makeup kit , I remember struggling to buy a lot of products and expand my range on foundations , powders , primers and etc. I’m so thankful I had my parents help me invest in my kit and guide me. There have been a few others, but obstacles are experiences that teach us the most about ourselves. You experience growth through hard times and obstacles put in front of you, but next time you face a similar situation, you’ll know how to handle it. Any successful person you may ask has faced countless obstacles and challenges. The way I see it is without them, we’d never reach our goals with strong, confident characteristics.

February 25, 2017 the day I started my freelance makeup business. I specialize in makeup for any event including but not limited to {weddings, quinceañera’s, prom, and pageants.} I also travel to people’s homes, events, and location for an extra fee. I love providing this service because I know most people want not to feel rushed or pressured on the day of a special event. In situations like these, most people want to be stress-free and have one less thing to worry about. I love assisting people with this service. It’s truly extremely helpful. I also love it because I get to work in different environments and parts of the city. I also love painting on my face, creating colorful looks. I use my face as my canvas and love to draw on it with makeup!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to continue to enhance my client’s beauty! Build my clientele, continue to grow, succeed, and meet new people.
