Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Walker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my company at the age of 21. I was fresh out of college, graduated top of my class and moved back home. I just knew I would find employment quickly. No one would hire me! I applied for over 100 jobs and the interviews I went on were either not in my field or just not a fit for me. After 3 months of searching, I decided to take matters into my own hands and start a PR firm. I landed my first 2 clients from Twitter and LinkedIn.
Due to several internships in PR, I knew I had the skillset, I just needed to put myself out there. Thus my firm, (formerly known as PR Mentality, LLC) was born! In August 2018 I will celebrate my 6th year in business and I cannot believe my blessings! I’ve been able to work with record labels like Interscope Records, assist on national campaigns in film/TV like FX Networks, BET, etc. I thank God that He has allowed me to gain success thus far and I am excited about what’s next within my brand and business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Starting out at such a young age and being a first-generation college graduate and entrepreneur, I didn’t have a blueprint for how to start a business. Although I knew I was a great publicist, there were certain things that I just didn’t know business wise. I had to learn the hard way- how to find and secure clients, how to properly plan out monthly budgets/income, etc.
Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint at heart and sometimes it can be a bit lonely.
No one tells you that you will have days that you just want to quit. No one tells you that above anything else, your success is dependent on your faith and mindset. I’ve had moments where I’ve lost clients and didn’t have new leads, I’ve had moments where I had to let go of clients because they were not a proper representation of my firm. I’ve had to battle dealing with “mentors” that did not necessarily uplift me.
All in all, I am sharing this not to complain but to give a reality check to current and aspiring entrepreneurs. The road will not be easy, you will want to give up, you will want to quit but don’t you dare! Because you deserve to live out your dream and your passion. In business, there are gains and losses. The good truly outweighs the bad and as a Christian woman, I truly give God the glory and honor for longevity thus far in my industry. No matter what you face as a business owner, keep going. The journey is worth it in the end

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I give all credit to God. I know that by His grace, I have been able to have a sustainable, profitable business. My faith is what keeps me going when I can’t always seem to see the vision or if I get discouraged. I pray a lot and also keep a positive mindset.
I realized early on that it was important for me to get rid of limiting beliefs, self-doubt and anything else that no longer served my purpose and where I was trying to go in business and in life. To keep my mindset in check, I listen to podcasts, music and have surrounded myself with other women in business that understand the gifts and challenges that come along with entrepreneurship.
