Meet LOOKiT

Today we’d like to introduce you to LOOKiT.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our band is composed of two brothers and a cousin. That means, in some ways, our band has existed for about as long as we’ve been alive. We come from a family of musicians who taught us our instruments at an early age, and we grew up jamming together every week.

There was a little side room in the house our grandparents lived in. Over the years, that room held an eclectic mix of instruments. At various times, there was an upright piano, an acoustic guitar, a violin, and even a tiny one-string guitar. That’s where our band started. During every family gathering, we were in that room, jamming or writing. As we got older, our songs got a little better – but we never lost the feeling that room gave us.

Our biggest influences were The Beatles and Coldplay. An unlikely pair, but it’s true. To us, The Beatles were godlike, untouchable figures – and Coldplay was the first band that made us feel like we could do it ourselves. As we started writing and developing our sound, our music intake grew more diverse and we started getting excited about finding new, strange, foreign music.

We got serious around 2015. Jam sessions became full, complete songs. Messing around in Pro Tools turned into full, complete demos. We began playing shows throughout Atlanta. And, eventually, we began recording with Ron Benner at Dogwood Studios. Over the course of about a year, we completed our new EP, Circling The Sun. We just released the EP, and we can’t wait to support the release by touring the southeast.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We don’t suffer from a lack of passion or ideas. However, due to the stage of life we’re all in, we run the risk of being stretched too thin and taking on too many things at once. We’re all creative people, pursuing various things. Striking the balance can be tough.

Also, there are plenty of ambitions we’d like to realize in the recording studio and on the road that simply require more resources.  The good thing is, we have a huge number of songs that the public hasn’t heard yet. As we broaden our scope and resources, we’ve got plenty of new material to pull from.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
LOOKiT isn’t a one-person band. We are three different minds with equal influence over the material we put out. So, we tend to cover a lot of ground when it comes to genres, ideas, and styles – hopefully, without ever sacrificing our distinctive sound.

Our live show also makes us unique. We’re a three-piece band, and each of us is a multi-instrumentalist. Our shows consist of a ton of instrument changes and surprises. Each of us is pushed to his limit in each show. We strive to create an otherworldly atmosphere that our audience can get lost in. And, when the opportunity arises, we’re just as excited for stripped-down acoustic performances.

LOOKiT is meant to be a completely unique concept – its own thing entirely. As we continue to develop, we hope to expand our world as far as it can go.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We try to find the success in the journey itself. While we do have plenty of practical goals, we know those goals will only lead to more goals. We don’t view ourselves as another one of the competing bands in Atlanta, trying to make it within today’s genre restrictions. We think of ourselves as aliens, circling the sun, bringing foreign concepts to planet earth.
