Today we’d like to introduce you to Iyanna Vaughn.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Iyanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m the owner of the Bookkeeping and Financial Strategy firm Lovely Financials Group. I founded LFG in 2016 to fill in a gap.
My story is pretty unique in where I didn’t graduate college with an Accounting or Finance degree. I graduated with a degree in Health Care Management with a dream of becoming a CFO at a hospital. Never in my wildest dream did I think that I’d be a virtual CFO for small businesses.
During college, I took a few accounting classes and became one of the weird souls who fell in love with it! It was only natural for me to return to it when the time was right.
Around graduation, I gave birth to my daughter [literally walked across the stage 2 weeks away from my delivery date].
After settling into motherhood, I was sat on my hands with the idea of going back to school or starting a career in accounting.
During that time, I worked from home as a Host Parent to adults with developmental disabilities.
This is where I literally became a “mom” of three overnight.
Feeling overwhelmed was an understatement.
I needed a creative outlet and that’s when I got introduced to the world of blogging and online business.
I enjoyed witnessing women crushing their businesses. I then became disheartened by them speaking about money with such anxiety.
To make a long story short, I decided to fill in this gap by providing bookkeeping services! I was able to create my bookkeeping business after investing in the program.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My entrepreneurial journey was everything but smooth sailing.
I struggled with my own bouts of fear and imposter syndrome.
I thought to myself, who was I to think I deserved to have a thriving business? I began to compare myself to those in my field and began to seriously underprice my services.
Through working through this (a muscle we must continue to flex), I’ve been able to package my offerings in a clear way.
After restructuring my offerings, I had another battle to cross.
The next phase was going from owning a job to actually owning a business.
I challenged myself to create better processes and be strategic about building a team.
This year has been a real challenge in growing my team. After some growing pains and facing the way I lead, I’m happy to have a strong team who acts in their expertise.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was in love with reading (and writing) novels, drawing, dancing to Caribbean music and playing The Sims!
In elementary school, I wanted to be a pediatrician. In middle school and high school, I wanted to be a psychologist. I found that all of my friends turned to me for advice and I always had deep questions.
I’m a true introvert but was known to be pretty sociable one-on-one.
I’m easily entertained, so I laugh a lot!
