Meet Lyric Jackson of Lyric’s Looms in Cobb County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyric Jackson.

Lyric, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Lyric’s Looms is a custom loom bracelet business created by 9-year-old, rising 4th grader Lyric Jackson!

People always say I inherited my entrepreneurial spirit from my Dad, who owns his own business in the automotive industry. A month before my 5th birthday, I launched my very 1st business, Lyric’s Closet! For a year, I independently gathered brand new and gently used items from my closet to sell. My Mom assisted with the promotion of the items and the actual sales!

Last summer, I learned how to make loom bracelets from a YouTube video and before long I had more bracelets than I knew what to do with! I was inspired to create my second business when my school, Imhotep Academy, announced: “Marketplace Fridays” – a monthly event where student entrepreneurs have an opportunity to sell services and products to our peers and members of the school community. Lyric’s Looms officially launched on September 21, 2018.

During the opening week, I received overwhelming support from teachers, peers, family, and friends earning over $300 in sales! I knew I was on to something! I had taken a $20 rubber band kit and was able to start a savings account for my education.

Outside of the loom bracelet business, I enjoy reading, gymnastics, and simply creating! During the 2018 holiday season, I wanted to give back to my community and joined forces with the organizer of a local toy drive. I was able to create and donate dozens of charm bracelets to children in need.

My charm bracelets are custom (you select your favorite colors and favorite charms) OR you can choose from my pre-made inventory. “From my heart to your wrists! Lyric’s Looms to the WORLD!”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been very blessed to receive a lot of support and assistance from my parents. So for me, the road has been pretty smooth. My mom has been an amazing employee (Lol) and has marketed and promoted my business and flash sales on many social media platforms.

If I just HAD to pick a challenge related to my business, it would be the time management required with balancing school work, extracurricular activities, bracelet making, and downtime.

As a scholar, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my entire academic career, along with earning various other academic awards and recognition. I was the 3rd grade Class President, JV Cheer Captain, and 2018 Spelling Bee champion!

I’m a busy girl, but I truly love everything that I do. It’s what makes me… me!

Please tell us about Lyric’s Looms.
Lyric’s Looms may be considered unique because I’m a kid! But, I operate my business like a grown up. I prioritize orders, follow up with customers, and make sure that I create quality bracelets that will last! It is important to me that my customers (both adults and children) feel like they’ve spent their money wisely. Especially with my peers! I realize that allowance is serious business and the fact that they make the decision to spend just a part of it supporting my business means everything!

I am most proud of how far I’ve come with this business – an idea I created all on my own! The love and support I have received has pushed me to do more, be more, and possibly expand into offering other products. I’d like to partner with companies for staff gifts, colleges and sports teams for spirit wear, event planners for party packages, children’s medical offices, and so much more. The possibilities really are endless!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Since I’m only nine, this memory is pretty fresh! Lol.

I honestly just enjoy any opportunity I get to spend time with my family – all together! Like, for Thanksgiving! I’m an only child, so I love getting together with my cousins and just having fun!

Oh, and our family vacations are great too!
