Today we would like to introduce you to Maelene and Hannah E Cook of Silver Butterflies LLC, a Retail Gift Shop. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Silver Butterflies LLC was established with a heart of compassion from our daughter Hannah E. Cook, for her love of caring for butterflies and moths. She has been studying Butterflies and Moths for over eight years, and her passion for them continues to grow. One day her desire is to become a Lepidopterology. Her enthusiasm and love for Butterflies and Moths have developed into her making arts & crafts of Butterflies, and other fun things. Now, her mission is to share her knowledge with other children and adults about caring for Butterflies, Moths, and other insects as well. Now, her GOD given gifts and talents have turned into her business career. Her parents are Frank and Maelene Cook of Tucker, GA. Hannah favorite place to travel is Callaway Garden Butterfly Center.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest challenge in 2022 has been connecting our products to the social media platform, marketing, and product development. This year, I have registered with SCORE Business Mentoring Program for direction, wisdom, leadership, and support to understand the fundamentals of establishing a business for longevity.
As her mother, I have been operating and managing the business on behalf of my daughter since May 2021. Connecting with SCORE has been a positive step for us, Mr. Wolbe has been extremely helpful in navigating us in the right direction for the business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Hannah is creative in writing, arts, crafts, and has a passion for teaching. Products sold in our store are Hannah’s book, butterfly arts & crafts, ink pens, butterfly brooch pins, 2023 Calendar with Hannah’s own photographs, T- shirts, and other unique items. Our YouTube channel is filled with educational videos about butterflies, moths, and nature.
We are immensely proud of Hannah’s accomplishments in writing her first children’s book. She believes her book should be in every school core curriculum for reading and comprehension for elementary grade levels K-3rd grade. It is our goal and objective to get her books into the school’s system soon. It’s a great book with a great story. We give our LORD JESUS CHRIST all the GLORY and Praises for inspiring Hannah to author a book.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
SCORE a Resource Partner by SBA (Small Business Administration) is a great organization with many resources for new start-up businesses. SCORE will provide resources materials, mentorship on how to lay a proper foundation for your business, and to avoid mistakes most entrepreneurs make in the initial stages of business. Secondly, study the small businesses around you and learn their ways of success.
