Meet Mandisa Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandisa Johnson.

Mandisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Atlanta Film and TV first launched in 2016, at the tail end of my Creative Writing, MFA program. I wrote a few blogs and interviewed industry professionals, eventually letting it go. In late January 2019, we re-launched. This time, I had a little more stick-to-itiveness. Currently, we have over 280 informative blog posts and have interviewed over twenty entertainment industry professionals within Atlanta for our Conversations with Atlanta’s Movers and Shakers series. Interviewing industry professionals provides them an opportunity not only to share their stories but offer their industry tips and advice to newer artists looking to break into the film and tv scene.

Once someone becomes one of our Movers and Shakers, there is an opportunity for them to share as panelists for schools throughout metro Atlanta’s career day. We also host events such as our virtual Coffee Chat and our in-person Creative Juices Networking event. Currently, we have four contributing writers who periodically blog for our platform and cover events such as the Atlanta Film Festival.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road and often is a struggle to get people to read what we write or participate in our networking events. Recently, I have figured out how to get people interested in what we provide. I have taken portions of informative posts I have written and created TikTok videos, which has helped create more of a buzz. It has also inspired people to reach out and ask questions.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Atlanta Film and TV’s mission is to Serve, Empower, Engage and Educate, those that are a part of or looking to get involved in the Atlanta Film and TV industry. We not only have a blog, but we’re capable of bringing people together within the Atlanta Film and TV industry for our networking events, whether it’s in-person or virtual. This past June, we hosted our first Creative Juices Networking event. We had two speakers, Character Designer Joshua Leonard and Actress, Host, and Founder of Acting For Beginners, Dani Guevarez. Even though this was our first in-person event, we still managed to be sold out, and right now, our greatest achievements!

If someone needs direction for their career within the industry, we provide coaching for a fee. What sets us apart is that we share informative posts that educate those newer to the industry on navigating their career in film and television.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing people thrive in their careers in the Atlanta Film and TV industry without being scammed!
