Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcy Sperry.
Marcy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a born litigator – tenaciously advocating at every turn to stand up for my beliefs. So, law school was natural path for me and after attending Emory Law School, I started my career at the powerhouse firm King & Spalding, where I developed invaluable litigation skills. After honing my litigation craft at King & Spalding, I accepted a position at Womble Carlyle (Now Womble Bond Dickinson) in the IP practice group, where I developed expertise and experience in all areas of IP, including trademark clearance and prosecution, copyright enforcement, and general IP litigation.
After over a decade of big law experience, in 2017, I followed my entrepreneurial dream and launched my own IP boutique firm, Sperry IP Law. And, just a month ago, we launched a new name and brand for our firm – Vivid IP! The new brand stands for the bold and vibrant ideas and creative enterprises that we represent.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a road with many twists and turns, and some speed bumps. Initially, a major challenge was bringing my clients with me as I started the firm. I feel truly blessed that every single one of my clients chose to follow me and believe in my firm. There have also been challenges in terms of meeting the needs of a growing practice, which I solved through hiring a strong team of dedicated and talented professionals. In two years, we have not only doubled our revenue but expanded from a one-woman operation to a five-person team, with two summer associates joining our summer intern program starting in May.
