Today we’d like to introduce you to Marku$ The Artist.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for the arts, music in particular. I grew up watching my older brother and his friends make music together, and that sparked my interest in creating music myself. I was in the band throughout school, but that didn’t get the girls’ if anything just made it more difficult so I gave that up for sports. I linked with a group of guys in high school, and one of them had a makeshift studio in his shed. I would start to go to his house everyday for no reason and just sit in his studio and listen to beats and play with my voice over the microphone. One day I actually built up the courage to hop in a cypher they were having in the studio and found out that I had a gift. Still wasn’t taking it too seriously, but I started writing music after that day. Fast forward to 2015, after traveling for a while I decided to come back to Georgia. I linked with Erick Flores (BenjiDidIt), a friend from the old neighborhood who had started recording from his house. We spoke for a few days and came up with the idea to start a collective of artists with myself as the frontman. That same year I dawned my name, Marku$ The Artist. “The Artist” in reference to Prince, my favorite musician. At the end of that year, 2015, I released my first project 20 Days Out. And that’s how the journey began.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. Three weeks after releasing 20 Days Out, I went to jail for the first time. In the years to follow, I would go back two more times. I struggled with depression for a while and felt really lost in regards to my music.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Marku$ The Artist – what should we know?
I’m Marku$ The Artist. A performing/recording artist, based out of Douglasville, GA. I am the greatest artist of my generation, (self-proclaimed lol). I am most known for my mixtape 20 Days Out. I specialize in translating pain and emotion into sound and then engineering that sound you hear to relay through your central nervous system and trigger a feeling that is your own. That shared experience between myself and my listener is what I’m most proud of as a creator. I am no different from anyone in this world if anything I just know who I am a little more so I hold myself to a higher standard. Cause I mean, we are God after all.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe my confidence and knowledge of self will ultimately be the key to my success. I know who I am, and what I am here to do.
