Today we’d like to introduce you to Marsh Arts.
Marsh, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started when I first got a paint set in preschool, there’s an actual video of me at Xmas opening it. However my first memory was when I was in the 3rd grade and I had to draw the United States and as I’m drawing it from a picture I printed my mom tells me that I can draw and that’s when it clicked that I wanted to become an artist. Eventhough I got my BFA in 2015 I started my business in 2012 initially by freelancing paintings, logos as well as business cards. Once I officially graduated, I extended my services offering not only logos, business cards and paintings but also murals, portraits, menus, flyers/posters, cover art, apparel, websites & illustrations.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road but it has been a very interesting road. Life comes with mountains and valleys. For example, trying to figure out the right type of art I want to present and how to present, how to market yourself as well as how to get yourself out there so people can actually see you in person doing what you’ve been showing them online but also showing them your personally. It all connects and figuring out how to do what you love to do can be tricky sometimes but you always find a way to make it work.
The Marsh Arts Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Marsh Arts Studio provides services including logo design, business card design, flyer/poster design, sticker/label design, cover art, menu design, booklet layout, apparel design, illustration, portraits, murals, websites, postcard design, letterhead & envelope design.
I’m most proud of my SET THE ARTIST INSIDE OF YOU FREE! paint & sips that I gear towards using a form of art therapy. Making sure that people that are overwhelmed have a safe/creative space to just chill and release any stress they may have in a healthy way.
What sets me apart from others is that I am a one stop shop. I run a print shop full time which allows me to print things I create for my clients which includes business cards, flyers/posters, labels/stickers, yard signs, banners, 2part/3part forms, pads, CD/DVD duplication, magnets, decals, t-shirts, postcards, laminating plus more!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have a few influences and mentors throughout my business/artist journey. First there is my family, I’ve had great grandparents, a grandmother as well as my mother that has had their own business as well as know about design that have taught me some things as well as me just learning by observing while growing up in Chicago. Secondly, I have my cousin Brandon Bailey that I have interned under in Chicago that taught me about business more in depth. My influencers that I admire are people that are famous like Beyoncé from a black owned businesses woman as well as Rihanna. There are also people that inspire me to help me create certain types of artwork for my people like Dick Gregory, Minister Farrakhan, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, SZA, 2Pac, The Black Panther Party, etc. I also have people that I keep in my personal circle that I inspire me from an artist perspective but also in a personal level as well.
