Meet Marsha Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marsha Mitchell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our catering delivery journey was born out of a necessity to improve the way food was delivered in the heart of Atlanta. I started with biking delivery downtown. Biking proved to be difficult as there was not a lot of buy in from the public on the idea. Once I discovered that catering delivery was needed and would be more popular, I quickly switched from biking to driving. The idea of biking is not gone totally, we would just have to come forward as a society and realize the importance of that level of service.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our struggles have been many. With catering delivery, you must be on time, professional, courteous, patient, and able to carry heavy loads. Drivers must be all of the above and more. We made many mistakes in the beginning, everything from pricing to time challenges. Once we figured out the time challenges and building logistics, we got a lot better in providing excellent catering delivery services in the Atlanta area. We travel all over Atlanta and surrounding cities.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Trinidad and Tobago. Growing up, I always loved creating. I also had a huge soft spot for animals and their welfare. I remember making plant holders and walking block to block selling them. I remember Dad bringing home a goat that would be sacrificed for thanksgiving and specifically told me not to get to close to the goat. I named him Friday. I would walk with Friday, talk to Friday, feed Friday, everything Friday, then the day came. Dad never told me they just took Friday to the large open area next door and as was the custom hung him from the tree and well, I ran all the way up the block to my friend’s house distraught about what was about to happen. When I returned later, Friday was on a large table outside, heartbroken, I walked up to his leg parts and with tears in my eyes, I said bye Friday. I will miss you and don’t you know I swore his leg jumped! Anyway, I will never forget my friend. The Island was beautiful then. We always had food. Scores of fruit trees, vegetables and sea life. My father was strict and taught me the importance of being honest and keeping my word. Those things never left. At the age of 12 and with one suitcase, I left the island of Trinidad solo and met my mother in the US. While my life experiences changed drastically, many of the lessons taught by Dad never left.
