Today we’d like to introduce you to Mauri Hair.
Hi Mauri, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Master Cosmetologist and Salon Owner. I’m from Cincinnati, OH. I’m a mother of five worked all pregnancies hair school to someone chair to my own salon! So I stay busy trying to keep everything in order! I been doing hair since I was nine yrs old it’s my passion! I started doing the community hair for nothing just loving and excited to braid and my mama told them “they not gon use me when they know its money to be made” I was that talented so I started making $10 a head (braids to the back, micros, 27 pieces and more)! Every time someone says Mauri the clients told me they thought of me and hair so that’s where Mauri Hair comes from. I always did hair never worked this was my job! I graduated from high school and went straight to Beauty school where Empire Beauty Academy taught me but Moler-Hollywood Beauty Academy Graduated me in Nov 2014! Got my licensed in 2015. I moved to Douglasville, GA. In 2016 for change and to advance my hair career not knowing a soul here! Stepped out on faith! IT wasn’t easy! I lost my mama and brother on this journey. I come from a family of ten, seven girls and three boys so it was hard! I have worked with other salon owners and hairstylists where I have been put down and limited to show my skills in a professional workplace.
When I got here, I introduced hair extensions to so many salon owners and have got fired or not hired for trying to sell my products or doing hair if another person doing it trust me, I heard it all from them telling me, “I’m not going to show out on their turf”! I have had others telling me (“I’m not gon make it”) (“I’m not a millionaire”) and (“I’m undercutting other stylists and makeup artist lash tech in workplace”) and (“I need to stay on one profession”) where I’m from there is no limit what millionaire you know of have one job! I’m a Cosmetologist! Anyway, that didn’t stop me. I kept ongoing. I sold hair to a lot of salon owners and people here in Ga. I have helped many start their hair biz! Now I’m a Salon Owner for almost 2yrs and building my own team! I have advanced my hair career to hair care products also cause I just don’t do hair r sell it but I grow hair too thats my intentions! I love hair its what I love doing to keep me focused in life! I use different techniques to help hair grow that’s what makes me different from other stylists. I care for the hair! I use my creative skills and do the best I can to provide elegant services! I just want others to know no matter the persecution keep going, don’t give up, you got this; follow your dream. It’s your blessings, not theirs! There will be distraction to every blessing you have so just get ready for it! I’m so excited for new opportunities in 2022 that I get up and show up even when I don’t feel like it; you gotta keep going; it’s going to pay off sooner or later!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a tough road for me success not easy! I lost my mother and brother on this journey! This was my biggest downfall never imagine life without them if I didn’t have a talk with them both about my career and more… God knows where I would be!
