Meet Megan Jackson of B:U

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Jackson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always had a sense of fashion since I was a kid — but in high school I realize it might just be a calling but I was still lost so I went to school for it — I now have a bachelors degree from The Art Institute of Charlotte transferring from Ai of Atlanta for Fashion Marketing & Management in 2011 — I always watch people back home go to college and never do nothing in their career after leaving school so I always told myself once I leave school I’m going to make it my priority to do something in the fashion field so I wouldn’t lose my touch — I started with my blog showing others how to revamp thrift clothing & then start distressing denims back when it wasn’t so easy to find — from there I seen where people would purchase from me or find me to distress their denim — so I got tees made with a design I made in school — I went to different events outside of my hometown just to see if it wasn’t bias opinions on my brand & gradually start to realize this could really be a movement so I started to change my whole perspective of my brand — my people (B:U GANG) really showed me the way I just hustle my way through it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, it isn’t a smooth road. I still struggle & I don’t have a mentor or no go-to person in my family that has a business up & running — so I struggle with finding the answer am I doing what’s right or making the right moves — but honestly I depend on my faith & go with the flow — I was built off integrity so a lot of sayings pop up in my head when I have to think think am I making the right moves — “follow your instinct Megan it’ll never stir you the wrong way”.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about B:U – what should we know?
B:U is a brand that isn’t for the norm — we just different — we express ourselves through our clothes — realize I say “we” cause I wanted to create a tribe — it hasn’t always been that way but that was my long term goal & now we have one “B:U GIRL GANG” — I always had a small circle and never let to many people in but the people I let in I want to flourish with nothing but high vibrations to reach their full potential — “B:U GIRL GANG” I visualize as just that — when I inspire & uplift my people it makes me proud cause I know B:U isn’t meant to be just a brand it’s definitely a movement — but overall we specialize in urban wear, accessories, and I would say I’m known for the B:U NEVER THEM prints custom hand-painted on different styles — which is also what sets me apart from others.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As I stated before integrity, discipline, all in all stay solid, true to yourself (B:U) and never go against the grain.
