Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Glass.
Meghan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have loved pictures since I was little. To be able to see things that I wouldn’t be able to otherwise is almost magical. My mom would let us go thru old boxes and drawers filled with snapshots of the past. This is probably what inspired me most growing up. I became obsessed with the idea of never missing anything. My mom bought my very first camera when I was 12. I took that thing everywhere. I took so many pictures of people during the holidays, Im sure my family began to get sick of my antics. My husband surprised me with my very first dslr in 2013. To say I was in love would be an understatement. I was still working full-time, so photography for me became an outlet.
The biggest turn for me and my photography was when my dad battled cancer. I remember taking photos of every single moment I spent with my dad. Those specials moments still weigh on me and I am so thankful that I have photos to look back on. During this time, my husband was also in and out on deployment, which made things more difficult but once again, Photography became a saving grace for me. From then on, I threw myself more into photography. I watched YouTube videos, networked, attended styled shoots, and booked a mentorship. In the spring of 2020, I decided to take my photography to the next level by going full-time. Its been a crazy journey but I am so excited to see where God takes me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My husband is military and if you know anything about military, you’ll know that we move… A LOT. This can make networking and building clientele very difficult to say the least. He hasn’t allowed me to give up though. It also wasn’t easy saying goodbye to a career job that I actually loved. I graduated from college with an english degree and certificate in secondary teaching. Not to toot my horn but I was a great teacher and loved my kids. I just felt like God was calling me to do more with my gift for telling stories.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in families, couples and wedding photography. My clients know me editing more on the moody and natural style. Also, I LOVE my black and white photos. I am so proud of how much I have grown in the past year alone. What sets me apart from others is my passion for capturing stories and memories. I am not only hired to snap photos. I strive myself on authenticity and raw emotion. My sessions are built of friendships. I love building friendships with my clients. I find that it brings out the very best in front of and behind the lens.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I don’t see success as booked out weekends or loads of cash. My idea of success is receiving those, “omg. I absolutely love these photos. you really captured us and our love!” messages. Its hearing from my clients years later telling me how much they still fall in love with their photos. Or simply being able to capture all of my clients life moments. To be chosen to capture a families most prized moments is a blessing all in itself. Every time I receive an inquiry to book, I do a little happy dance.
A special thank you to my family for always believing in me, my friends for sticking by me and my husband for being my rock. And of course my wonderful clients. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
