Meet Mel Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mel Silva.

Mel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well it all started when I was a teen. I would come home from school and watch 106 and Park music videos get so much inspiration. I would study my favorite celebrities’ makeup, outfits and hairstyles. I’ve always told myself that I would learn their beauty secrets and be just as glamorous.

When I got to high school, my mother taught me skincare and makeup tricks on how to keep a natural face and eye. I would go to school and I would sit in class with so many ideas and looks running through my mind. Once I got home from school, I would watch my favorite Beyonce and Rihanna videos and I would sit and recreate their hairstyles, makeup and outfits and have mini photoshoots. I instantly fell in love with the art of transforming into any look or mood I desired.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve had a few bumps in the road. When I moved to Los Angeles, it was pretty hard to find clientele living in such a big city. While in the midst of figuring out how I would get clientele, I was contacted by my friend to do makeup on set for a music video.

That morning I got up super early, watched my favorite videos and got inspired to pull off a look before I left. I arrived at the destination and did the artist’s makeup and the next thing I know, I’m being offered to be in the music video. I’ve never been in a music video so I was extremely nervous, but I did it anyway and we killed it! That day taught me to never stop and keep grinding. It also proved that I could do anything I’ve dreamed of.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a Makeup Artist and an Influencer. I specialize in all things beauty and I’m known for these looks hunty! I’m really proud of my work, passion and consistency. It’s opened a few doors for me and I am forever proud for that.

I find it exciting knowing there’s no limit to art and creativity. My hands are in many pots, whether it’s makeup, fashion, self-care products or graphic design. I will always be a creative being and I think that’s what sets me apart from others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I can’t think of anything I would have done differently. Everything that has happened in my life has made me the person I am today.
