Meet Melissa Artieda of Melissa Artieda Photography in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Artieda.

Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The story of how I became a photographer is nice to remember, because it was a gradual series of experiments. I first picked up a “nice” camera in high school and I immediately fell in love with the idea of capturing pretty much any moment I wanted. It wasn’t until college that I bought my first DSLR, and I began photographing everything I could think of. I took a “Dance Photography” class for fun, and there I got to meet many dancers, and soon I became the go-to dance photographer at Florida State University. Later, I became a “graduation photographer,” and that’s when I realized that people loved my photography and that I could make this hobby into a business.

After trying out all kinds of photography, I decided to focus on wedding photography. I moved to Atlanta in 2016, and even though it was scary to start all over again, I got to where I am now (which is a happy place). I look forward to meeting and working with more amazing people. Photography is something that brings people together, and I hope to continue to capture amazing moments and leave some kind of legacy in Atlanta.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building my own photography business hasn’t been easy. The hardest part is getting your name out there. I give many thanks to social media, because that’s where most people find me. I’m still learning, and I am definitely not an expert on how to run a business, but I would say one of the biggest factors that people notice is confidence. Without confidence, people won’t trust you. From the beginning I have been extremely confident in my craft, and I would say that’s the reason my business exists.

Melissa Artieda Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in wedding photography. My style is very artistic and moody. I love showing emotion and I’m not afraid of the shadows. I enjoy getting to know my clients, their stories, their passions. I always try to capture each person’s story and make their photos unique. I believe that having a lot of emotion in my photography is what sets it apart from others.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was when someone trusted me to photograph their breathtaking waterfall elopement in the other side of the country (Portland, Oregon). It was a dream come true.
