Meet Mia Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Williams.

Hi Mia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a plus-size Model who was born and raised in a small town in Indiana. My modeling career started in 2016, but the passion to become a fashion model started when I was four years old. When I was a little girl, I was fascinated with high-heeled shoes, jewelry, clothing, accessories, you name it. I would love to play dress up in my mother’s clothes and have pretend fashion shows with my sisters and cousins.

I love all things fashion and because of this, I moved to Atlanta to pursue my dream. About six years ago, I began to model for a women’s boutique, which has allowed me vast opportunities to meet and make connections with new designers, models, photographer’s and several other boutiques.

I’ve mostly walked in fashion shows ripping the runway but would like to do more print work. I am currently a Model/Brand Ambassador for Curvy Gurl Modeling Agency by Andrionna Williams who is an advocate for plus-size models.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and yes, the struggle is real. In the industry of being a plus-size model, you can easily be overlooked. Most designers design clothes to fit smaller models and if you’re not what the designers are looking for or the right size, you don’t fit in. You have to have tough skin to work in the industry and accept criticism with a humbled heart because being told no more than once can be detrimental to a person’s self-esteem.

I remember going to a casting call and seeing a mix of plus, curvy, and standard-size models. Almost all designers chose the standard models to wear their designs. I was so disappointed. I started to self-doubt but quickly reminded myself that no matter what size I’ am, I will be accepted. Having a clear mindset of who I am along with my confidence has gotten me where I am today. I’ve walked in several shows for one designer and in other shows, I have walked for three or four designers. It is all about your attitude and how you represent yourself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my work life, I am in Healthcare for a prominent hospital in Atlanta. I am a Plus-size model and I’ve been in business for about six years. I specialize in runway, print, and promotional modeling. I am known for my model walk. I am proud that I can inspire other models of all sizes to pursue their dreams. I am my brand as I represent me and what sets me apart from others is I know whose I am and I will not allow society to dictate what size I should be or how I should look. I compete with no one but myself and my goal is to always be better than I was the day before and to bring positive energy, my photogenic personality, poise, and passion for modeling to every project, photoshoot, casting call, and fashion show. ISLAY.
