Meet Michael McQuaid, Artist/Musician

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael McQuaid.

Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My father inspired me to play music at a young age. I remember staring up at him playing the guitar when I was 3. Together, we had many late night jam sessions that I credit to a lot of my musical influences. I was very passionate about music throughout my teenage years. I discovered songwriting and my love of being on stage. When I turned 18, I moved to Nashville to pursue my career as an artist.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has been a road with many ups and downs and I’m sure there are much more along the way. I think one big challenge was being my own team. As an artist, I feel like we have to wear so many hats at some point. Being our own publicist, manager, booking agent, record label, your own photographer, producer, stylist, etc. There is so much that takes away from the music itself. I’m slowly building my team and not having to focus on these things, but I’ve been a little bit of everything at some point.

Please tell us about Michael McQuaid.
A heartbreak kid rooted with a voice of pain and grit, Michael McQuaid is a Dallas native making a name for himself in Nashville. His sound infuses a clash of blues, soul and heart-stopping beats to cultivate a new class of R&B. He deviates from his peers with his innate ability to harmonize the use of production and organic instruments.

McQuaid’s independently released single, “VIBES” received radio play due to its popular demand. His infectious style gained him traction all over the U.S. and U.K, leading him as a featured artist at SXSW – making one thing clear, his live shows are as dangerously contagious as his melodies.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is when I got my first guitar. I remember my mom and dad bought me an acoustic guitar when I was 4. They bought it out of a Lillian Vernon catalog. I stumbled upon it two years ago and gifted it to my cousin.
