Meet Michelle Rainey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Rainey.

Michelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I remember preparing to attend an event in Atlanta, I wanted my make-up to look special, so I contacted a make-up artist that I had seen a few times in the back of a nail salon I frequently visited. I contacted her and I was excited that she had an opening. When she finished, I glanced at my phone, and I didn’t recognize myself.

I was disappointed, to say the least so, I rushed home pulled out my little make-up kit and began to blend, I removed the heavy eyeliner, got rid of the brow liner from the middle of my forehead and at that moment it hit me! This is my calling! Make-up is my passion; this is what I was born to do! It’s funny how God will take an experience like this to reveal to us our purpose.

As far back as I can remember, I have always loved make-up. I was the little girl in Detroit, getting in trouble for using a purple marker on my lips (LOL) I remember taking my Grandmother’s Avon lipstick samples and I only wanted the coloring books that allowed me to color the lips of the characters! In high school, I was wearing full glam and applying make-up for friends and family from time to time. Make-Up was simply a hobby for me, I’d never considered it as a career.

That revelation led me to tour Gwynnis Mosby’s Make-Up Academy, where I immediately felt at home with Mrs. Gwynnis and her husband Pastor Phil. To me, Mrs. Gwynnis is the Picasso of make-up and she continues to mentor me to this day. Not only did she teach me artistry she encouraged me to start my own cosmetics line, Snatch’d by Michelle Rainey Beauty. My husband and I launched Snatch’d Cosmetics by Michelle Rainey Beauty in 2017, our products sold out very quickly. Our products have reached the hands of Real Housewives of Atlanta stars Porsha Stewart and Kenya Moore as well as Letoya Luckett formally of Destiny’s Child and we continue to ship all over the United States!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, it has NOT been an easy road, trying to maintain a family. I am a wife and a mother of two, so maintaining a household, running a successful business, staying fit, reading my Bible, praying and attempting to look fabulous while doing it. LOL

Snatch’d Cosmetics by Michelle Rainey Beauty – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Michelle Rainey Beauty is comprised of my Artistry and Snatch’d which is our liquid lip glosses and lipsticks. I am a professionally certified make-up artist, I specialize in beauty make-up, TV/Film, and special effects. Beauty consists of Bridal, Fashion Shows, a girl’s night out, and editorial make-up. Lately, I have been working on a lot of TV/Film projects, most recently I was the Head Make-Up Artist for Sense of Self Movie written and produced by actress Lena Sledge. I am most proud of our ability to give back through giving services and use of our products to victims of Domestic Violence survivors both male and female. We also give back to high school graduates by providing our services and use of our products for prom and graduation photos for low-income families.

What sets me apart from other artists is my application technique. I have a passion for flawless and natural soft glam, my goal is to bring out the natural beauty of my clients. Make-up should never take away from your looks but enhance your beauty, make-up should never have you looking in the mirror trying to figure out who you are but realizing this is who you have always been. I want my clients to walk away happy with their final looks and more confident, not just in their outer appearances as well as their inner beauty no matter the occasion. Our liquid lipsticks are highly pigmented and long-lasting. We have a variety of colors such as nudes, reds, and wines for all skin tones with gloss, satin and matte finishes.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success comes in many forms. For me, its the feedback from my clients and customers, the smiles on their faces when they take that first look in the mirror after our glam session, the referrals from another artist; from my clients, the returning customers, the text messages or the calls I get from my clients about the feedback they’re receiving, the social media shout outs and most of all I love to see people wearing my product!
