Meet Mikah Miller of With A Child’s Heart in Canton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikah Miller.

Mikah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always wanted to be some sort of helping professional. At a young age, I walked the streets of Washington, D.C., helping my Mother with the homeless ministry at our church. She had such a big heart and personality and people would open up to her instantly. I wanted to be able to do that. At the time, I didn’t understand the multifaceted nature that is the human mind. The man walking down the street talking to himself with colorful animation or the woman that would never smile despite how much I dance and sing. As I matured, my desires to know “why” intensified. Why do people hurt? What causes people so much pain that they want to give up? And why people afforded the same opportunities take different directions? I’ve always viewed the mind as an iceberg. One slight nudge of the iceberg could send it down any direction. That nudge to me represents experiences.

As I aged, I would watch Ricki Lake every single day. I admired her wit, but also her empathy for her guest. I was also fascinated by every storyline on the show. It wasn’t until Ricki Lake began incorporating Psychologist and other Therapists on the show that I realized there was actually a career in helping people. I was blown away! Then, after viewing The Sixth Sense in my High school Psychology/Sociology class, where the lead actor specialized in working with children, it all became clear. In that moment, I knew I would be a Therapist.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been rough, but rewarding. I love what I do and I love the clients I serve on a daily basis. I wouldn’t change a moment in my journey.

My company is called With A Child’s Heart, LLC. We work with children, adults, and families. We are known for working with children and adolescents and we specialize in At-Risk Youth. We understand that life’s challenges can interrupt or even stunt the emotional maturation of individuals causing perceptions to be altered and resentment or grudges to be formed. We try to find those moments in time that truly affect our clients, and then help them work through them. We help them to gain a better understanding of how those challenges changed them and then assist them with living their best life. If we can work on those issues while they are still young and able to learn skills to combat some of these challenges, even better!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely!!!! I love it in Canton. I feel like Canton, Ga. is growing and expanding rapidly. Why not get involved in this growing community.
