Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla Taylor.
Hi Mikayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business in 2019 a bit unconventionally. I left my corporate job because I was unhappy and struggled with chronic health symptoms. I decided to build an online business to have the time and flexibility to focus on my health. I’ve always loved writing, so I thought being a copywriter would be a great fit! When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was newlywed, and I decided to return to the 9-5 world. I never gave up on my copywriting business, though. And in 2022, I started feeling some of the same chronic health symptoms again. I set a plan to leave my 9-5 before the Thanksgiving holiday, and one week later learned my chronic health symptoms were a result of endometriosis, a reproductive health condition that causes severe pain for many women. I’m grateful to be building a business that allows me to support my health, family, and finances on my own terms.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is certainly filled with ups and downs, and my journey is no different. When I returned to my 9-5 in 2020, in many ways, I felt like I failed in business. Now, I recognize that it is all part of my story. I started my business not knowing how to monetize my zone of genius and make an impact. I learned so many lessons from that experience. I also learned to always work hard and never give up. I think the girl who started her online marketing business in 2019 would be proud of where I am now and the steps I took to get there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m Mikayla Taylor, and I run an online marketing business for creative entrepreneurs! I’m most known for my work as a conversion copywriter – I help women and mom business owners grow their brands off social media with website copy optimized for search engines and sales. In my experience building and writing websites for clients, I realized there was a disconnect in education for solopreneurs. They hire me as a copywriter or for a website build but often feel stuck months later when they pivot their niche, update their brand messaging, or need to make a minor change to their website. Solopreneurs need to know how to manage a website and write copy that converts! To address this issue, I’m most proud of developing my signature program, the Convert through Copy Bootcamp. CCB supports women in their journey of building websites that convert through SEO, so they can spend less time on social media and more time with family.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always very creative. I loved to read and write. I also was OBSESSED with the Internet! I played all sorts of online games and connected with people I had never met in real life. Now, interestingly, I’ve built an online business where I am creative and talk to people every day on social media that I have never met in person! It certainly feels very full circle.
