Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Jackson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After being diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in 2011, and being healed by God in Sept 2013. It was put on my heart to save the kids of The Greater Daytona Beach area, so The Women of Virtue Foundation was founded in memory of some very special women in life. My late mother Delores C. Williams Ates, My late mother in law Mary Jo Drayton, My grandmother’s Victoria C. Williams & Willie Lee Hawkins, My stepmother Mary Lee Jackson, My Sister Tangela D. Little, and two very special friends Kimberly Flynt-Willis & Mrs. Toni Charles. Also my two biggest motivators: My wife Leighetta Jackson, and our 13 year old daughter. The support and love they show me is indescribable and I appreciate them dearly, I’m just the car they are the engine.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, it was extremely hard, being a young black man, trying to make a difference in the community in a positive way. I was met with a lot of resistance, and then one day I was in a local Walmart & the Manager approached me because he had constantly seen me in his store buying bikes. When I told him what I was doing, he said it tugged at his heart and he donated ten bikes immediately, after that, I felt that I could do anything with this foundation.
