Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Andrews.
Monique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Almost a year ago, (November, 2018), I realized that I absolutely hated my job. I no longer wanted to come to work every day, I was no longer as good at my job as I once was, and I stopped caring about the company or the people that were affected by the things I did at work. I realized then that I needed to leave. On November 28th, 2018, I quit my job! I couldn’t believe what I had just done. I had nothing lined up, no plans for afterwards, NOTHING, and I just quit! I knew this would be my first year (probably ever) not working in retail during the holidays so I took full advantage and did nothing for the entire month of December. My 30th birthday was December 29th, so I was just happy to spend 30 being truly happy. Then came the realization that my savings wasn’t going to grow if I did not have an income, so I decided it was time to go to work. In January of 2019, I started applying for a new job. My standards were SO high and I knew I wasn’t taking anything less than what I deserved, but I knew I was ready for what was next. I was never the type of person that wanted to be an entrepreneur because I just figured it was too much work. I enjoyed being able to clock out, go home, and not focus on what the workday held. I enjoyed knowing that every single two weeks, money was being deposited into my account. I enjoyed the stability of knowing how much I was making every month, I was fine with it, and never once wanted to work for myself. Then the realization set in. I had applied to over 250 jobs! No one wanted me. I did not get ONE phone call back from one of those companies. Some of them, I knew I was more than overqualified to take the job and they still weren’t calling me back. What was God trying to tell me? So I started to think, what could I do to make money? One thing I pride myself on is being able to do almost anything, like a jack of all trades, which inspired me to find something that would allow me to utilize all of my talents together. This is when YoursTruly Concierge was born! Of course, I contemplated a million times on if I should do this or if I actually WANTED to do this and why but after some serious thought (and so many pushes from God, my family and friends) I finally launched her on July 8th, 2019. In my first week, I had so much encouragement and love from everyone, it was overwhelming! People really were excited about my new venture and it made me so happy and so relieved that I was actually doing something that I loved! Now, here we are almost at my 1-year mark of being “jobless” and I can truly say it is the best decision I’ve ever made! YoursTruly Concierge makes me proud to be an entrepreneur, I am proud of the services that I can provide to others by delivering peace of mind to their everyday lives and I am so thankful for the love and support that I have continued to receive this far! I can only imagine where things will take me by this time next year!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the biggest struggles I have encountered so far is just the stability of work! This has also been the biggest opportunity of growth for me so far as well! I guess it never hits you that you literally have to WORK to EAT until you’re in that position and that’s exactly what you have to do! I appreciate this new level of drive and motivation I have discovered in myself and I know that this is exactly what I needed to be the best version of myself possible. Another struggle has been to continuously trust in God! He hasn’t let me down yet and it has been so beautiful just learning to trust in Him even more than I ever have before! Faith without works is dead and I am so happy to be working in HIS vision for my life and not my own because clearly what I was doing was not working! I am thankful for the opportunity to do work in His name for the rest of my life!
YoursTruly Concierge – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
YoursTruly Concierge focuses on delivering peace of mind to your everyday life! I want to be able to be a secretary to anyone who needs one. Many of our everyday tasks can get so overwhelming because we simply don’t have the time to do them so it is hard to find a sense of peace in your life, and that’s where I come in. I specialize in so many things but one of my favorite tasks is organizing and event planning! There is a major sense of peace and focus that comes over you when your things are organized and that is something that I want everyone to experience! My services range anywhere from organizing closets to babysitting your kids for date night, to building a website for your new business venture. I do it all! I feature a section on my Instagram titled 100 reasons to hire a concierge because I do believe that people don’t know what all I have to offer so this is one way to let them know, whatever they can think of, I can probably help them in some way.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success has never been about a dollar amount! Success is defined as true happiness, and that can come in so many different ways. Success to me looks like a blossoming and growing relationship with God, me being able to hang out with a friend who is having a tough time because I’m not obligated to someone’s clock, success is being able to plan a trip to another country because I felt like it, or being able to have my bills set on auto-pay because I don’t have to worry about the money that’s in the bank to cover them. There isn’t a true amount of money that can buy happiness but I’m shooting for my first three commas in my bank account now so we can talk more about that when I get there!
