Meet Morrisa Jeanine of Verse Union Entertainment in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morrisa Jeanine.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Morrisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began in the arts from a very young age, starting with my first love singing/music. My parents had decided from the moment I was born that I was set to be an entertainer by way of casting me in Gerber baby commercial ads, local prints, and local tv commercials. I am the first born from my family, so I believe lots of dreams and aspirations were projected onto me from birth. Growing up in charter schools, magnet schools, private, public and moving around like a military brat. I’ve come across many people and inspiring stories in my life. I’ve developed a balanced skill set that has gotten me to experience nearly every aspect of my industry and business module. Being originally from Savannah, GA — naturally I am a sheltered introvert, expressing myself through creativity became the ultimate outlet for me.

By the age of 14, my mother moved us to the Atlanta area and I began writing and recording music professionally all while running my own online business, designing, coding, building community websites for small businesses, personal bloggers and music acts such as Mya, Bow Wow, and B2K — just to name a few. By 17, I was in college and a youtube singing sensation, the you tubers gave me motivation to embrace my true passion of singing and creating music. By 21, I had finished my journey with singing in girl groups, took a break from live performances and was signed to a music production label writing for bigger artist chasing placements for Leyota Luckett, Mary J. Blidge, Fantasia, Day26 and other up and coming artist coming into the Atlanta music scene. This allowed me to focus on high-quality songwriting; leading the way back to my own artistry. Unfortunately, I had to leave this production company due to a violent situation that almost cost me my life. I had then decided to work for myself again and go against the pattern that I was seeing.

By 25, I had officially launched a multimedia company of my own in which I named “Verse Union”; it’s set to be an entertainment search engine for the freelancers of arts and entertainment. While building this remote company, my own sound of music began to surface the streets of music lovers again and I had started a wave that I am now dedicated to. At this great prime age of 30, I see how my life has come together full circle. I now live in California and just recently released a new full EP’ titled “VISIONBELLE” and a brand new single titled “Tunnel Vision” produced by my (notso) little brother — I have the pleasure hosting and organizing songwriter workshops/creation sessions/showcases. The opportunity to travel to create events and platforms for creators like myself is one of my missions in this world and I am seeing it through.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy, it really takes a lot of mental stability and everlasting passion. You have to know your lifestyle in order to commit to it. I struggled with that growing up in my craft, but what I have learned is that you have to learn as you go and take it easy on yourself. The biggest challenges is love, and being a hard lover. I have a tenacity of people pleasing and that has delayed some of the things that I had wanted to do. I believe that was all due to be not knowing or wanting to embrace who I am and what my position actually was in the bigger picture.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta for what it’s worth. I personally feel like it became over-saturated, but I am a Georgia girl at heart so it will always be home for me. I love the culture and community that has developed in ATL over the years.
