Mowbray and Cherina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our first office was located in the back of my mother in-laws’ small crowded house in South Memphis, TN. With a used laptop and printer and Wi-Fi for internet and some basic training we were off to the races!
Because we didn’t have the money to open a traditional franchise and store front, we had to innovate. We needed a system that would allow us to work from home, reach customers across the country, and use word of mouth advertising.
We took our experience from years in the network marketing industry and applied some of the same concepts to ONE STOP Taxes.
We started offering others the opportunity to start their own virtual tax store.
Now there are One Stop Taxes online stores servicing thousands of customers all across the U.S.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The nature of the tax business isn’t for the faint of heart… You have to cram a full years’ worth of work into 1 quarter. So there’s the process of learning about taxes, becoming familiar with the software and dealing with the fast pace. On top of that you’re dealing with people’s money and the IRS.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about One Stop Taxes – what should we know?
ONE STOP Taxes is a full-service tax preparation agency with a nationwide network of preparers. Our cloud based model allows clients the convenience of Turbo Tax with the added comfort of having a tax professional to do the heavy lifting. So, our customers never have to drive to a store and wait in line. And They don’t have to worry about leaving money info the table because they tax experts.
We have grown from $20k to seven figures in revenue, and most of that growth has come from giving other people the opportunity to start a business and feed their families. A majority of our online stores are run by women, most of them part time.
What truly sets ONE STOP Taxes apart is that we don’t charge upfront costs to start an online store. We understand that sometimes people need a chance to get started in business. As consummate entrepreneurs, we know the struggles of building something from nothing.
So we are proud to be able to give people a track to run on and watch their natural drive and talents flourish as they walk into their purpose.
As a bonus for their hard work, our top producers were treated to a Carnival Cruise to Cozumel Mexico this June. It was our first time meeting some of them in person after working with them all season. It’s become like a family, and we are very proud of that.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We built ONE STOP Taxes on ethics and service. We do what we say and we don’t play with people’s money. Our tax clients get paid and our store owners never have to wait for support. We do business with integrity… it’s part of the culture. That helps us is attract other good people.
