Today we’d like to introduce you to Mya Lee.
Mya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my business my senior year of high school. One day, me and a friend were talking about businesses and she pushed me to start my own. With the help of family and friends who are also entrepreneurs, I got all my questions answered. From that day forward, I planned and invested into my business. Only 2-3 months later, I launched Within Collection on January 1st, 2020. I got the name because I firmly believe that everything comes from within yourself. Personality, happiness, and even fashion. That’s where the collection comes into play. I’ve always been the type of person to where if I see or want something, I go and get it. I wanted something for myself, a name for myself. With all the support of my family and friends, I wouldn’t have gotten as far as I am with Within Collection. I thank everyone who has supported me through this continuous journey and hope that it only goes up from here.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, not at all, I’ve had multiple days were I would breakdown whether it was due to no sales for a week straight, shipping problems, and just getting the business started with permits, etc. I would sometimes ask myself is it worth it and when will my business start growing. I learned it comes with a lot of patience with running a business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own an online apparel and accessories business. This online boutique ranges from women apparel, accessories, lashes, and more. Starting and launching this business on my own at the age of 17 was a lot to handle, but I was determined to make this company mean something to people. I put a lot of passion behind my company, from the very name it says a lot about myself as a CEO and my company. It took me a while to figure out a name for the business, but it’s this one word that has value to me. “Within.” To me, this word pushes you to be yourself, saying how everything sprouts from within yourself. So embrace yourself and be you. Even with your clothing, show your own style.
What were you like growing up?
I was born and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up I was always shy. I still kind of am. Everyone knows me as the quiet one in my family, who doesn’t really say much. So for some, it comes as a surprise to me being a business owner. During my years of school, I was always known for being the “best dressed” or having “shoe game.” I never really took into account what I can put forth the enjoyment I got with clothes, shopping, etc. I never really had a big interest, except for cheering, while growing up. So, when my senior year came around and I started to decide what clothes I like, that I can bring excitement to others to buy/see the items I have online, I loved it. I enjoy making these decisions and making a vision for my company.
