Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Glay.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Naomi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I believe everything has its divine purpose. I moved to Atlanta from Kansas City Missouri in 2013 to pursue my modeling career and to get a new environment. My best friend and I had so many obstacles before even getting to Atlanta (car troubles, lack of money, lack of knowledge, etc.), despite all the warning signs we still moved. Anything would be better than Kansas City, we thought. I moved to Atlanta with 500 dollars and never looked back. Each year, I could not compare the current one to the last. I was growing and walking into my purpose whatever that was, At the beginning of 2018, I decided to do a 31-day social media fast. This was one of the most rewarding self-fulling fasts I had ever experienced. During this time, I asked God to give me healing. Each day, I took the time to love myself, communicate with my surroundings and say affirmations. And that’s where power talk began. Power talk – an event to discuss the hardships, how to overcome and rise above in the Atlanta fashion industry. I had five panelists Kayla Madonna, Ty Pleas, Kingsley Brown, Anivia Cruz, Mel B, and the incredible Shay Mccray as the host the event was a huge success with the help of Divine connections and NVRCHPR.
The next three days after the event, I was on a high and in complete shock that the event was such a success. I received a call to be a contestant in the Miss Liberia USA pageant. I told the director I needed three days to decide. I had to take into consideration that the pageant was three 1/2 weeks away. And most importantly, the last time I even participated was in 2006. I called her back on the third day and confirmed my participation. She put me in contact with my pageant coach Belloh Julius. What was the worst I had to lose? I flew to Philadelphia July 18th and left July 21st back to Atlanta with a crown, two trophies, more luggage, then I took and sisters I didn’t know I needed. I won the title of Miss Liberia in the US 2018. I asked for healing at the beginning of the year and God gave me a crown to support my platform of raising awareness for women and children who have been impacted by sexual abuse as I am a survivor myself. This crown has allowed me to travel across the united states and share with people my testimony dealing with sexual abuse. The road is still very hard but it’s more clear. Being able to talk about my sexual abuse has allowed me to become free of mental bondage.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being broke, not having a family to run to. My car got stolen in 2016.
Please tell us about nucia.
Healing reign – is my campaign I am currently promoting. It is to encourage others to speak about the things we can not speak of. I currently have a gofundme to raise money for my first project of providing a water well in Liberia. I will be traveling to Liberia this December to start to find the place where I want the well.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Every birthday was my favorite memory. My mom would make sure each year I was surrounded by love, family and friends. She kind of spoiled me, now I take birthdays super seriously.
