Meet Nicole Rivera of Unicorn Creashunz in South West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Rivera.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been into art, any kind of art but it was never anything I intended on selling. I’ve always been nervous about what I create wondering if it’s good enough, you know? So last year I posted a unicorn coaster set and I received so many inbox messages asking about them. So I decided to turn my art into a business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it wasn’t very smooth. After I made the coasters, I started making other things thinking it would draw people in right away because of how much interest they had shown with the coasters. Nope. I realized quickly that’s not how it works. So for a while, I sat on a lot of things I made. Word of mouth and my friends sharing my art on FB has helped me the most.

Please tell us about Unicorn Creashunz.
Well, I work a lot with resin. I make coasters, keychains, Orgone Pyramids, charging plates for crystals and ashtrays all with resin. I also make smoking wands, wreaths and I paint. Anything artsy really but the main thing is resin art. I’m glad I made that leap to post my art last year. If I hadn’t done that, I’d still be sitting on these ideas. I’m not sure what sets me apart, honestly. I know I put love into every piece I make. Every custom piece is well thought out, everything is smudged and cleansed and blessed before it leaves my home.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Art class in high school. I remember the teacher was so passionate about art. Everyone thought he was crazy. I remember him yelling, telling us there are no lines in art, just shadows. There’s no black, just mixed colors and no matter how ugly it may be to you, someone will love it! That stuck with me. Yet it still took me years to really show anything I’ve done lol.
