Meet Olympia Papageorgiou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olympia Papageorgiou.

Hi Olympia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been singing since I was a little girl in Cyprus! My mother always told me that I would run around and sing “Jingle Bells” (and Christmas music is by far my favorite music to sing, even to this day, haha). I come from a very musical family and all of the singing and piano playing was definitely encouraged! I sang my way through different choirs in school and so on. I began experimenting with recording when I was in high school and at 17 years old, I recorded my first cover and released it to YouTube. I realized that I really enjoyed recording and wanted to do it as much as I could. A few years later, when I was in college, I was introduced to an independent label “Qurriculum Global” and began working with them and then officially signed with them in 2019. I love all the things I do and find my creative side to be very liberating and fun!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road but I do believe that I was able to avoid some bumps in the road for different reasons. I am blessed that I have a trustworthy team that I am able to go through this process with, otherwise the road would be even more difficult. I believe that the entertainment industry is a difficult industry in general and there are a lot of things to be aware of. I have learned so many lessons while working in the industry but I also work with individuals who have taught me so much about what to look out for. One major struggle happened a couple of years ago when we thought my single SALUD was not going to be released. We hit some walls with the song and mixing process that made releasing the song incredibly difficult but with perseverance, we were finally able to release it! When it comes to creativity, I think I am absolutely my worst critic and that has always been a challenge. I want to make sure that things are done correctly and will do whatever I can to ensure that happens. I also want to make sure I am releasing quality music and I am not interested in shortcuts. That being said, the road can be long and difficult at times but in the end, I am always proud of the results!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The two major things I do in my life at this point are pursuing my Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and recording music as a recording artist/singer. I wanted to expand my intellectual and analytical side by pursuing higher education, and I wanted to also explore my creative musical side by continuing to release music. I believe what sets me apart from others is my willingness to pursue education and music simultaneously. I hope that others can see my life and say, “Why only choose one when you can do both?” I hope to inspire others to pursue multiple dreams and goals they have and believe in themselves enough to do it. I am proud of myself for pursuing the things I enjoy and find interesting. I am proud that I have not given up on either dream – becoming a doctor and being a recording artist. Why limit ourselves? If I can do this, you definitely can too!

In addition to school and music, being a Greek-Cypriot-American, I try my best to use my platform to share the history of Cyprus. I have released a podcast called “Stolen Homes” where I interview my father about his experience during the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus in 1974. It is an emotional and raw story but necessary to share. I hope that you will take the time to download it. It is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am releasing a new single called “No Titles” November 5th! I am so excited for this new song! Just imagine SALUD but much much more! Can’t wait for you to hear it!
