Meet Ona Oghogho of Blk Pod Collective in Downtown Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ona Oghogho.

Ona Oghogho is the founder of Blk Pod Collective (BPC). The idea for BPC was birthed from her initial need for guidance & support when developing her own podcast.

Her passion for journalism and broadcasting started at Georgia State University, where she studied communication and worked at the University newspaper, television station and student programming board. Through her on-campus work, she learned the art of bringing other stories to life.

After college, she stepped away from her first love, to pursue her second passion in healthcare. In 2017 after 6 years in healthcare revenue management, she decided to tap back into her love for storytelling and thus began her journey into podcasting.

Two years of research led her to the realization that the black community was on the brink of being left in the dust by yet another media breakthrough; internet radio, a.k.a. podcasting. Thus, in 2019, she stepped away from my career in healthcare entirely & created Blk Pod Collective.

Ona’s main goal is to help African & African American Podcasters elevate their shows, so that they can tap into the vast advertising dollars and opportunities available within the industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
Oddly the road to creating Blk Pod Collective has been relatively smooth. It’s like the universe aligned once I made the decision to create this organization.

From the people to platforms that have been involved, everything that has been meant for Blk Pod Collective has truly worked itself out. I’d say the biggest challenge has been ensuring that as we continue to grow we have the resources and tools available to the community to ensure that everyone who works with us is successful.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Blk Pod Collective was created to fill the void of adequate representation within the podcasting industry for African & African-Americans. We are an organization for podcasters that provides educational, technical, and financial resources to ensure the black community has the tools needed to be competitive within the industry.

We specialize in Education, Podcast Production and Live Show Management. With courses on starting a podcast to aligning with brands for monetization we ensure that you’re ready for each stage of your podcast. Our podcast production services allows you to come into the studio and record while we take care of everything else. Lastly, we know many podcasters want to break into having a live show, so they can engage with their audience in real life; but many are unsure where to start. Hence, our live show management services lets you focus on engaging with your audience, while we take care of everything, from helping you find affordable venues throughout Atlanta, Houston and Charlotte to assisting with marketing and video production.  We are a one stop shop for all of your podcasting needs; while also providing a community for support and engagement.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Atlanta is an amazing city for any creative to get their start. From the affordable cost of living to the ease of access to so many networking events geared at creatives, it’s simply amazing.

For anyone wanting to start a podcast or even a podcast network, I think Atlanta, New York, and Houston are amazing spaces to break into as they all have a large population of creatives that are taking charge of their own stories and serving as pioneers for future generations to come.
