Today we’d like to introduce you to Otis Wallace.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After 23 years in the U.S. Army, I retired from the Army Chemical Corp. Working as a Chemical assessment team member contractor at Camp La June in 2005, I was downsized. I relocated to the Atlanta Ga. where I couldn’t get hired with any companies here at the time. My wife and I started cleaning commercial businesses for a few years. In 2008 I got hired as (housekeeping supervisor) with a Contracting company providing life support in Iraq. In 2010 my contract ended and I returned from Iraq paying off my debt and with a business plan to Start Superior Steam Cleaning. I formed my company, got licensed, insured, and bonded. In Addition, I’ve completed the carpet cleaning certification at the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration; (IICRC) at Truck Mount & Cleaning Solutions in Norcross GA. And that was Superior Steam Cleaning beginning.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest challenges were marketing and getting known in the industry of carpet cleaning. I mean you got the big name known carpet cleaning companies that everyone knows, but who know of a small company like Superior Steam cleaning. So I got a website built and made flyers and tried all the marketing strategies I could afford and then my marketing dollars ran out. I was struggling for a while, and then it happen. I found out people really wanted a small company like me to do their carpet, upholstery, and tile and grout work. Why, because I didn’t use high pressure sales tactics. And they always got me, the owner to do the job. My company ran on quality when big company ran on quantity. Just when my business was beginning to increase regularly, In 2015 I was beginning to have problems with my neck and had to undergo neck fusion surgery. I had to take a year off to fully recover and business suffered badly, I wasn’t sure if I could continue, but I healed and was able to start over in 2016.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Superior Steam Cleaning – what should we know?
Superior Steam Cleaning is a carpet cleaning company with honest and ethical business practices. We have evolved from a commercial and domestic cleaning company of six year to a carpet cleaning company. We provide a successful total cleaning program, for proper carpet care from the time it’s installed to the time it’s replaced. We clean carpet for three reasons. We clean to make carpet look good. We clean carpet to prolong its life and we clean carpet to protect the health of occupy that live or work in a carpeted environment by using green products. We also clean upholstery, rugs, tile and grout. We specialize in Pet odor removal, Kool-Aid removal, applying Disinfectant, and applying Scotch guard. Superior Steam Cleaning is known for doing a quality job for a reasonable price.
We are most proud of being a Carpet Cleaning Certified company. What sets us apart from other companies is our meticulous attention to details.
