Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Rosen.
Peter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when I moved to Atlanta as a young man with no job and had to take the bar exam in Georgia to find a legal job. I did end up getting hired by the federal government’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as a trial attorney. My career took its first turn when the Coca-Cola Company offered me a position to start their EEO efforts. I readily accepted because working for Coke in Atlanta was a big deal. However, this role was organizationally put into the Human Resources department thus starting my career in HR.
After 30 years in the HR field, with many great roles heading up HR for private and public companies, in one of my last roles as head of HR for a publicly traded company in Atlanta, my role was eliminated due to our being acquired by a larger competitor. This event led to another turn in my career. I was hired by a small startup to help build the culture, develop a management infrastructure to enable growth and, by the way, build a relationship with 30 labor unions who were going to be part of the company as a result of acquiring a huge customer.
After a year, I realized that without the union piece, I could be doing the other work for many companies as a consultant and that is when I founded HR Strategies and Solutions in 2000. It went great for almost 2 years until the tech company implosion and then 9/11. I went back to corporate America for 6 years until I decided to reignite my business.
So in January 2007, HRSAS was re-launched and it has been thriving ever since.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has never been smooth, but I had good tires and a great suspension enabling me to traverse the bumps in the road. Some of the bumps were finding a job in Atlanta when I first moved, passing the Georgia bar exam, being the first person to start an EEO effort at a very southern company, traveling regularly with young kids, and generally thriving in corporate America despite my very independent personality.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with HR Strategies & Solutions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
HR Strategies & Solutions (HRSAS) is a boutique consultancy firm addressing the unmet HR and organizational needs of small to midsize organizations.
I am most proud of the repeat business, the longevity of some of my client relationships and the referrals that keep my business going.
I am also proud of being an official and unofficial mentor and adviser to many entrepreneurs and consultants.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are to keep doing what I have been doing but to start emphasizing a niche of providing objective 3rd party investigations of corporate internal complaints. My background and experience has proven to be attractive to prospective clients.
